Background
Auros Mal's story began on the planet of Iridonia, the fourth child to a Zabrak couple who loved each of their children deeply but struggled with having little to their name and the burden of yet another mouth to feed. A life for Auros was no doubt going to be difficult and a continuous struggle to survive in the poverty that was his family's burden. But it seemed destiny had a different path in store for him when a Jedi Master by the name of Eeth Koth came to the planet by mere chance when it came across the young Zabrak. Sensing his connection the Force almost immediately, he asked his family if they would consider allowing their son to be taken back to the Jedi Temple where he would be taught the ways of the Force and perhaps even become a legendary keeper of the peace, known to most as a Jedi. Knowing their son would face much hardship if they kept him here and wanting what was best for him they agreed and tearfully said goodbye to their little Auros. His mother tenderly telling him that she was so proud of him and his father promising him that whenever he looked up at the stars, know that they were looking as well and thinking of him.
So began Auros's training as an Apprentice, learning both the ways of the Force and what it meant to be a Jedi. As he grew older Auros's memories of his parents were faded somewhat, but he could at least remember their tender faces and gentle words that would usually lull him to sleep each night. While Auros was never the strongest or quickest of the younglings he did have a sharp mind that he often used to his advantage. He also found his ability to sense his surroundings and the emotions of those around him came easily. This coming so naturally to him made him rather empathetic, connecting with others easier and comforting them as best he could. Such a nature also gave him an innate talent in medicine and the healing of others, whether that be physically or mentally.
It was a few days before Auros's 10th birtdahy when the Clones turned on the Jedi and attacked the temple. Auros had been spending time training with Liara Talmore, a Twi'lek padawan who he had become friends with over the years when the attack happened. She had sensed something was wrong a few moments before the fighting happened, quickly guiding Auros and herself through the temple and to make their escape. Thankfully they were far away from where the main fighting was taking place initially and were able to escape and make their way into the depths of Courascant. From there they watched in horror as news spread quickly of the Jedi's supposed betrayal of the Republic. In just one night their whole lives, their whole Order just seemed to be...gone.
For the next few years they kept low, with Liara guiding Auros through various planets where they could try and find shelter, help and figure out what to do next. They tried to find other Jedi to get into contact with, knowing some must still be alive. But the more they tried the riskier it got, with the Empire now in control and Jedi being hunted down. At first Liara helped Auros with his training still, guiding him with some lessons she had learned about the force from her own Master. But then after an accidental slip up and using their gifts to try and help someone in need, they were spotted by the Empire and suddenly they were on the run all over again and this time there was little place to run that the Empire couldn't find them.
Auros still remembers the last day he saw Liara. It had been a day of dodging Stormtroopers and hoping they'd perhaps lost them once more when someone else arrived. The black, sleek armour - the double bladed red lightsaber. They were powerful and terrifying and were merciless in their hunt for the two of them and it was clear that sooner or later they would both be caught. So instead of letting both of them be captured, Liara instead had them split up and a promise that they would meet again when they were both off the planet. She told him to keep his connection to the force at bay, to remain hidden and off their radar. Auros pleaded for her to stay, both out of fear of being alone and knowing all too well she was taking the bigger risk for him. But she just reassured him, promised that the Force would be with him...and vanished off into the shadows. And that was the last he ever saw of her.
Auros continued to move, his hope of meeting up with her seemed to fade away, as months became years and the Jedi's numbers seemed to be almost extinct. He got what work he could as a medic and sometimes the occasional mechanic, cutting himself off from the force as she had told him to do. But even as that hope of finding his friend and any other Jedi continued to dwindle, he sensed something in the back of his mind he hadn't felt in years. Liara. She was alive. Somewhere out there. His friend was alive and he had to find her. Even trying to cut himself off he still felt her, which meant he had to find her...and perhaps any other Jedi who were still around. Perhaps...perhaps not all hope was lost.
