After the Great Jedi Purge, the Empire systematically hunted down Force users, but some lesser known traditions escaped their wrath. The Baran Do sages are one such tradition. Nym Doln was born on the Kel Dor homeworld of Doran shortly after the end of the Clone Wars. Had he been born 5 years earlier, he would have been taken in by the Jedi, but by the time of his birth, the Baran Do had resumed their ancient role of training Force sensitive children. Nym learned much from the Sages, but he never truly fit in. During his time with the Baran Do, Nym heard of another Force using tradition, one that fit his ideals better, that tradition was the Jedi. One of the Sages had trained with the Jedi before the Purge and has hidden with the Baran Do after the Clone Wars. Nym was drawn to this Sage and took him as a mentor. In addition to the basic teachings of the Baran Do, Nym learned the basics of Jedi philosophy and Jedi fighting techniques. Nm's mentor lived in constant fear that the Inquisitors would come for him, so he focuses his training on a lesser known Jedi dueling technique. Although Nym did not possess a lightsaber of his own, he was able to adapt Makashi dueling to an elegant blade that had been in his family for generations. When he came of age, Nym desired to see the galaxy and fight the Empire that has suppressed his people. Taking his blade and the clothes on his back, Nym left Doran for the first time, eager for adventure.
