Originally created by the empire to be the next great innovation in security Droid technology, his prime programming focuses on great strength, the ability to subdue enemies, and following imperial orders. The major advancement in his particular model was the ability for his programming to naturally evolve and improve his combat ability. His first order after being built was to guard an important empire weapons depot from possible resistance fighters and pirates. Several attempts to get in stealthily by said groups were thwarted by his immense strength and tough outer plating. Eventually one pirate raid managed to overwhelm him with a powerful droid slicer and steal the whole cache along with K-1T0 himself. He was delivered to their "pirate queen" Maz Kanata as a thank-you gift for her support of the group and that raid. With the help of various mechanics and technicians (like Junc Rol), she spent the next month reprogramming his circuits giving him freedom and personality. After essentially "raising" him and teaching him all about piracy and taking care of himself (how to shoot a blaster, how to fight, how to be a good ship mate) she let him go off and explore the galaxy with other pirate crews who could use his help. Due to the wear and tear from that lifestyle, his body has been heavily modded, repaired, and repainted to where it is hard to see what the original looked like.

- What was once a pristine empire black metal droid is no longer even close to that
- Years of fighting with the pirates and doing jobs for Maz has left him riddled with scrapes, blaster holes, and dents.
- Many parts of him have been replaced or jury rigged with whatever metal was lying around. Due to this, many of his parts are no longer sleek black but now other colors like red or rusted grey
- Also, many of his parts are covered in graffiti from previous employers, pirate friends, etc. His body is actually a chronicle of his own adventure.
-He likes the graffiti, and looks at it similar to how humans look at tattoos. He sees them as beautiful art that tells a story
