Background

NAME: Kellrick “Kell” Keen
RACE: Human
ORIGIN: Outer Rim Territories, Tion Cluster, Raxus System, Raxus Prime

BACKGROUND:

Kell was raised in the farmlands of Raxus Prime, a lush planet with abundant vegetation and multiple lagoons. Kell spent many a day farming and hunting, providing his family with the fruits of his labors (Father = Kellor, Mother = Ricka, Younger Brother = Rodrick, Younger Sister = Amicka). With a comfortable family dynamic, the Keen’s had a decent existence. Three healthy males allowed for much hunting and fishing, providing good clean proteins and lots of furs & leather for clothing. Two energetic females provided lots of foraging for fruits and vegetables; both being skilled in homecraft. The Keen family did well for themselves, but Kellrick was the oldest and felt a great deal of pressure from his parents to be the “example” for his younger family members.

At one point (around the age or 16), Kell balked under the pressure & confining role of the rural life and left for a time to pursue a different path in the city center. There, he met an up and coming bounty finder who went by the name of “Thunder”. Kell did not have a concrete plan on what he wanted to do once he reached the city, so bounty finding sounded like a decent enough job. Initially, the duo worked well together. Kell provided a lot due to his tracking and hunting skills, along with his farm tough brawn. Thunder was wily and world-wise, the one who got them in contact with the Finder's Guild and picked the marks. Thunder was also the one that got them initiated into the guild after first successful contract.

After a couple of years and middling success as city bounty finders, Thunder decided it was time to move to the big time. Around this same time, Kell started to have doubts about remaining in the city and was beginning to long for the quiet simplicity of the rural life. When Kell mentioned his doubts and desire to move back home to Thunder, a great argument occurred. For days they fought, mostly verbally but a couple of times they came to blows. Eventually the two came to an agreement. Kell would help Thunder with one last team up, but it had to be a big one that would help Thunder move up the ranks at the Finders guild and secure a tenured spot. Kell agreed, but as usual Thunder went to the guild hall and selected the mark. That job did NOT end well.

Thunder had picked a mark that had crossed a local cartel. (Yes, even an idyllic planet like Raxus Prime had a cartel.) The mark was a previous enforcer who had made off with some cash from a collection job and that did not sit well with the cartel. The job was a capture, not a kill. Kell was able to track down the enforcer’s location. During the infiltration of the lair, Thunder became over excited and entered before Kell could get into place. The enforcer had set up some alarms and was warned early enough to disable Thunder with some well-placed stun mines. Kell entered to find the enforcer standing over his partner with a blaster aimed at Thunder’s head. Kell rushed in, picked up the enforcer and threw him across the room.

Kell quickly got Thunder back up and in the fight. They went over to check on the enforcer only to find that he had hit a metal crate and broken his neck. The partners searched the lair and located the missing credits that the enforcer had stolen. Kell knew that he had just cost Thunder half of the bounty because the terms were a capture, so Kell told Thunder to take the cred stick. Kell also agreed to take the hit with the guild for the death, allowing Thunder to stay out of trouble for botching the job. Kell and Thunder reported the find to the guild, and Kell took a suspension while Thunder got promoted to the next level. Thunder thanked Kell for taking the blame and they parted on good terms when Kell left for home.

At home, Kell’s family welcomed him back with open arms. In Kell’s absence, they had taken in a couple of orphans who had lost their family in a massive storm. In addition to Kell and his family, the farm now included Jeinna, a female around Kell’s age, and her younger sister Kiera. The house was definitely full of life from then on. Over time, Kell and Jeinna formed a bond and grew close. After 5 years, (Kell 23 and Jeinna 22 at the time), the two lovebirds decided to tie the knot and build their own farm right next to the family farm.

Life was bliss for the next two years. Kell had built a solid home and become a very competent provider, using his tracking and hunting skills to generate more than the couple needed. Jeinna had become a savant at farming, canning and other homecraft. Excess goods were shared with the extended family and traded to neighbors. Kell and Jeinna were also known to give items to the needy to help them through rough patches.

Then the Rakata came to visit.

Kell was out in the forest on a multi-day hunt when the invasion began. The Rakata had found the city center and initially made friendly contact. Once their spies determined the people of Raxus Prime to have inferior weapons and few defenses, they began to invade and enslave the people of the planet. Thunder had escaped the town and fled to Kell’s farm to both escape capture and to warn Kell and his family of the pending incursion. After all, Thunder had risen through the guild ranks and felt he owed Kell for taking the hit on their last job. Little did Thunder know; he was followed to the farm.

Kell arrived home to find his house on fire. No one left inside. Kell knew his wife would go to the family estate if there was trouble, so he quickly made his way to the main farm. Kell arrived to find the Rakata moving in on the house. Before Kell could rush the Rakata soldiers and aid the family, he saw Thunder standing outside the main entrance behind a makeshift barricade that had been erected. Thunder had just pulled a thermal detonator when he was hit by a stun bolt from the one of the Rakata slavers. Thunder went limp, falling backward, dropping the thermal detonator inside the home. In seconds, the home was gone… along with all of Kell’s family.

The Rakata had to pick Kell up off the ground. After witnessing his entire life go up in a single blast, Kell was left as an empty shell. Kell did not put up a fight as they placed him on the slave ship and sent him to a slave colony. Broken, alone and only 25 years old, Kell now finds himself a slave with a new community that needs his help.

Kell is stout and rough, a typical hunter/gatherer.
