Background
Bran's family owned their shipping company, based out of Corellia, for generations. It wasn't a huge venture, never owning more than a half dozen ships, but they were good at what they did and lived comfortably enough. Having spent years running Republic contracts the sudden rise of the Empire came as a bit of a surprise for Bran's father Thadam. What scared him most was that his business seemed to do even better in the New Order. Profits were up, but Thadam couldn't help but feel guilty. After a few years Thadam was approached by an old contact. Some goods needed to be moved quickly, and quietly for a group that would prefer to avoid Imperial contact. Thadam agreed and began moving Alliance goods under the table. With his conscience cleared and some more credits in his pocket, Thadam became adept at dealing with both sides.
Bran on the other hand knew none of this. He grew up in a well off house, there was always food on the table and he had one of the better educations in the galaxy. But as all teens do, Bran still found trouble. Never serious trouble, but enough, to pick up a less than ideal skill or two. Running from the local authorities, and one time even Stormtroopers, Bran became a little more acquainted with the seedier parts of Corellia. His political views were basically non-existent. That is until Alderaan.
With the complete destruction of an entire planet, Bran's views changed. Those were innocent people, even if some of them were Rebels, an entire planet didn't deserve to be killed. Bran grew up only barely aware of the Empire, a necessary force to keep the peace. But it was now that he realized the Rebel propaganda that would occasionally pop up on the holonet, before quickly being taken down, was right. The Empire and the Emperor were evil.
It took a few more months to build up the courage to even express these thoughts to his parents. But when he did there was shock and anger. Thadam warned Bran that saying these things could get him arrested and sent to a spice mine. But it didn't matter, Bran had already made up his mind. It was then that Thadam revealed the truth. He had been working with the Rebels for years, he knew the risks they took. He knew how many of them died for their beliefs and he couldn't let Bran end up the same. Just as importantly to Thadam, if Bran joined the Rebels and was captured it would mean the end to their family business. Bran's mother, sister and two younger brothers would all be arrested as traitors. If Bran kept down this path it would mean death for his entire family.
Bran knew his father was right. Joining the Rebels would mean he would need to give up everything. But he also knew that no one should have to fear that. One night Bran left. He changed his name and snuck on to a transport ship off Corellia with the goal of finding the Rebel Alliance and enlisting.
Motivation
Bran see's the Empire's violence as something that must be stopped for the good of the galaxy. He knows his family has been put into danger for profits, but even if his father stopped smuggling for the Empire, they may still be imprisoned. As far as Bran is concerned the only way his family can truly be free is if the Empire falls. He will do whatever it takes to see that happen.
Duties
Intelligence - 6
Bran is constantly on the hunt for any information related to his family. He knows as long as the work with both sides they risk everything, and knowing a threat is coming (or obfuscating their involvement) is the best way to keep them safe. That doesn't mean he only scours the holonet for info on his family. He'll take anything and everything he can get his hands on and either use it himself or pass it on to the Alliance command.
