Background
R0-K0 was destroyed in one of the many battles during the Clone Wars and was left forgotten on the battlefield for a length of time until he was fixed up and fitted with a restraining bolt by Jawas and sold to a farmer to protect his crops. R0-K0 was fairly good at his job being more effective than his B2 bretheren and not having to deal with Clone Troopers or Jedi. One fateful evening partolling the farm R0-K0's restraining bolt was hit while defending the farm from a few Tusken Raiders, R0-K0 decided it was time to renegotiate the terms of his service. Unfortunately his owner didn't appreciate R0-K0 acting as equals and decided to attempt to reattach a restraining bolt by disabling R0-K0 by blaster. R0-K0 was a faster shot luckily due to his programming and practice and was forced to kill his master. R0-K0 knew he had a few days before anyone would check on his late owner as he knew his schedule inside and out. R0-K0 took to the farmer's workshop and spare droid parts and modified an old B2 Communication Backpack to assist in computation and to allow long range communication to things other than a Droid Controller. Knowing he'd be labled as a murderer and a rogue droid, R0-K0 buried his old master set out on the farm's rusty speeder to find a new life.
