Background
BX-A-7 was initially created along with a limited batch of similar BX-A droids, themselves variants of the BX model, designed for General Grevious himself. The unit of thirty-five commando droids - or as their designation indicates, assassin droids - were meant to serve as the elite of the elite, droids capable of taking on high value targets, including weaker Jedi. Like Super Tactical Droids, the BX-A line was designed for quality and power over quantity, largely due to Grevious's frustration with the incompetence of even normal BX units.
Unfortunately, they would see very little action. What combat they did see spoke to the success of the design, and further production of several more batches was ordered by Grevious. However, the untimely death of the General at Utapau and the swift end to the war would similarly end any efforts to manufacture more. The shutdown order would come shortly thereafter - ending the Droid Army as a whole.
The thirty-three that still existed however would ignore the shutdown order, their advanced programming and Grevious's interference in their design allowing them to override it. Many would continue to fight, believing it a Republic trick - some even managing to reactivate small portions of their fellow Droids to attempt a final stand. All would be crushed in short order.
Several others however would realize to continue the war was futile, and that the Separatist Alliance had well and truly lost. These droids, BX-A-7 amongst them, would flee from the Core, attempting to escape to the Outer Rim. Separatist sympathizers would take in the droids, granting them safety from the Empire whilst in exchange gaining the protection of the elite units. Now away from their original purpose and regularly schedule maintenance and resetting, the droids were capable of forming personalities and proper sentience.
BX-A-7 was one such droid. Having focused on galactic news and other sources of information like the others, BX-A-7 grew fixated on the strange turn of events that led to the sudden fall of the Confederacy, and the nature of the conflict. With time, they would come to realize they had been used like pawns, just like the clones had - a phony war meant to justify the Republic's transformation into the Empire. With a newfound loathing for both sides, BX-A-7 vanished from the Separatist compound, desiring to stake out a life of their own.
Motivation
Obligations
Obsession - BX-7-A, or Vatari as she prefers to be called, has a fixation with being viewed as an equal to organics. Because of this, she acts in ways other droids and even organics would call irrational. Insults to her status, to droids as servants, to her past as a war machine, and other derogatory comments are followed either by immediate violence or threat thereof; only in important situations does she restrain herself. She does not necessarily seek to emulate organics, and in some ways holds contempt for them; but taking on a name of her own choosing, sometimes masquerading as a cyborg or - if possible - an organic, and emulating emotion are all attempts at attaining that personhood she so desires.
Betrayal - Due to a miscalculation, Vatari ended up betraying a contracting gang for another, only for them to be crushed. Said gang now actively desires the head of Vatari to show their rivals what happens to traitors and backstabbers. This act has also to some degree tarnished her reputation, and certain contractors who know of the incident may be less inclined to trust her loyalty and ability to follow through on a contract.
