Background
Born on Chandrilla in a small town outside the capital city of Hanna, Harkness felt a connection with the natural world. She maintained the family bee hive and raised Chandrillan Cairnmogs and used their Cairnmog-milk to make Cairnmog-cheese for the local farmer's market.
All this began to change when she was accepted to the Brionelle Memorial Military Academy. She excelled at this academy, nestled between Hanna City and Lake Sah'ot, feeling an especially strong connection with anything mechanical, but did not feel like she fit in. Perhaps it was this sense of alienation or maybe just her own stubbornness that led her to buck the trend among many of her classmates and not actively seek out work with the Rebel Alliance.
Harkness Oakwood was instead recruited by Imperial Intelligence and assigned to the Interrogation Division. She left her bucolic homeworld for the glitz of Coruscant and the headquarters of the Imperial Intelligence Service.
There she gained a reputation for breaking rebel prisoners without a lot of mess or fuss, something that the Imperial Intelligence Service took pride in (as opposed to the members of the Imperial Security Bureau). Eventually her prowess for gaining information from tough targets caught the attention of the Inquisitorius, a secret division of the Intelligence Service. This division specialized in capturing Jedi or other force users, and then attempting to turn them to the dark side. If this proved difficult, they were tasked with killing the Jedi.
Her athletic abilities and marshall prowess gained from lots of spirited runs through Chandrillan forests were thus turned to serve a darker purpose.
As a low-ranking member of the Inquisitorius, Harkness was often assigned to shadow and capture low-threat force sensitive individuals, never fully-fledged Jedi.
One fateful day however, in a back alley of the notorious world of Ord Mantell, a routine hunt turned into an event that would change Harkness' life forever.
Her wounded acquisition reached out his arm and touched her face, in a flash she felt as she did as a child on those warm space-summer evenings on Chandrilla, when her and all the creatures of that world drew a single breath together.
The Jedi, the Force, mere myths and superstitions used by less-savory elements of society to fool the weak-minded were real. Most disconcerting of all however, was Harkness' realization that the reason she was recruited into the Inquisitorius in the first place, the reason she was so good at interrogating and hunting force-users, was that she herself had a strong connection to the Force.
In this single moment she decided, and the fallen Jedi knew, that she must right the wrongs that she had done. The fallen Jedi reached into his robe and handed her a cylindrical object and planted in her mind a single name, and a single planet; as he died a holo-picture tumbled from hand and activated, showing Harkess the animated image of the family of the man she'd just killed.
She knew what she had to do. Before the rest of her team could arrive she ran; she chartered a ship for the Outer-Rim Territories and found plentiful work as a freelance Bounty Hunter. Her aptitude with all things mechanic came in handy in a region of space not known for its handy access to parts and supplies.
Eventually, using hidden data in the holo-picture and the names the fallen Jedi told her, she joined with an unlikely band of fellow-travelers... those seeking to understand the Ways of the Force.
Motivation
Quests - Redemption (for serving Empire, betraying home) //
The Player Character seeks to atone for past sins or mistakes by serving in the Alliance. She may have served in the Empire: she may have been a criminal, bounty hunter, or followed some other pursuit that caused her to take actions she now regrets. Helping the Rebellion may be a way to regain her self-worth.
Ambitions - Revenge (against the Empire, specifically Inquisitorius) //
At some point in the character’s past, she was brutally wronged. Now she seeks vengeance, and she has a hard time focusing on anything else.
Morality
Emotional Strength - Bravery //
Emotional Weakness - Hatred //
Obligation, 10 - Betrayal //
A death mark's not an easy thing to live with; a budding force-user deserting the very agency whose sole purpose is hunting down such people is a bad move. Not only does the Inquisitorius know Harkness Oakwood has deserted her post, but they also likely know she is now a rogue force-user. They'll be on the lookout.
This also represents her own betrayal of her homeland, from joining the Empire in the first place and being fooled by their propaganda.
Obligation, 10 - Oath //
Harkness has made an oath to never use her abilities to harm another force-user again, and to work to reestablish the Jedi Order. Along the way she must learn as much as possible about who the Jedi were, and seek out those on a similar path.
