Background

Dukarrawump is a relatively young Wookiee, only recently celebrating his 75th birthday. Despite that, he has seen much during his life, and has recently suffered a number of hardships.

After Kashyyyk's entry into the Clone Wars, Dukarrawump enlisted in the planet's armed forces. Though he proved adequate as a soldier, he truly excelled in the more technical aspects of martial service, and soon became a highly-respected armorer for the Wookiee army. His reputation proved a liability when the Republic forces turned on their Wookiee allies with the issuance of Order 66 - Dukarrawump and his wife were specifically targeted for capture, and though they managed to evade capture for more than a year, they were eventually caught and he was put to work in an Imperial weapons design bureau overseen by newly-appointed Imperial Moff Tyn Setsun. With his wife and newborn son held in a separate, secret location, Dukarrawump saw little choice but to assist the Imperials for several years, his infrequent attempts at sabotage were rewarded with physical punishment and threats against his family. Eventually, Dukarrawump learned of the location where his wife Mapiamorr and son Temparrawoo were being held. Seizing the opportunity afforded him by Moff Setsun's visit to the bureau in which he was held prisoner, Dukarrawump broke free of his jailers and stole the Moff's personal shuttle, traveling to the prison camp located on the planet's moon and freeing his wife and son.

Mapiamorr was killed during the escape when she dove in front of a blaster bolt fired at Temparrawoo. Howling in rage, Dukarrawump used the shuttle's blaster cannons to devastate the prison camp, allowing a number of other prisoners to escape into the moon's wilderness areas and stalling pursuit long enough for him and Tempa to get away. Mapiamorr's loss hit both Wookiees hard, and they wandered the spacelanes aimlessly for several weeks. After a close call with Imperial forces tracking the moff's shuttle, Dukarra and Tempa sought to sell the shuttle. As no legitimate ship dealers would touch an obviously Imperial shuttle, Dukarrawump was forced to turn to the black market to sell it. This eventually brought him to the attention of Black Sun, who offered to dispose of the shuttle on his behalf in exchange for a favor at some future time. Desperate now to get rid of such a distinctive ship, Dukarrawump agreed, though not before negotiating for new identities for hiimself and Temparrawoo, as well as passage to a planet where Moff Setsun was unlikely to find them. One of Black Sun's spice smugglers then dropped the pair off on Ryloth, and the two Wookiees eventually found their way to New Meen, a small, newly-independent mining colony that needed the technical expertise the two Wookiees could provide.
