Background
A Chiss orphan raised into the bounty hunting business by his adopted father Daiga, Vega had trouble when he eventually set off to explore the galaxy and prove himself capable as a mercenary. With no seal of approval on his work's quality by one of the big-shots of the underworld, Vega wasn't sure how he was going to rake in clients until the fateful hour in a cantina on Nar Shaddaa when he met his boss. Vaalon Kier, a human cyborg in charge of his own guild of bounty hunters, Vega figured it was probably better than selling his soul to a Hutt and gave Vaalon the chance to win him over.
Little did Vega know at the time, Vaalon had a way with words that slowly began to win him over the longer that Vaalon went on. Romantic talk, glorifying the necessity of people like them to keep the galaxy safe from the criminal scum that would run free doing whatever they please if the threat of bounty hunters didn't keep them in line. Talk about rising his guild beyond the mere confines of just bounty hunting, raising bounty hunters beyond the stigma of murderers for hire into the realm of something more akin to peacekeepers. It was...honestly pretty hard for Vega to buy with how campy and naive it sounded, but Vega's curiosity by that point had convinced Vega to give it a try and see for himself how Vaalon's guild matched his hype. Ever since that day, Vega worked for Vaalon dutifully. Just as he strove for his father's approval during his training, Vega's desire to go above and beyond manifested in a borderline obsession with honing his combative talents to gain the respect of his clients and colleagues. His desire to become the embodiment of his profession kept him constantly searching for new and unorthodox ways to make his way to the top.
Despite his work ethic though, it felt as though Vaalon kept giving him jobs that he was rather overqualified for. It bugged Vega, but for the most part he tried to give the guild the benefit of the doubt. Odds were they all were hazing him he'd tell himself, testing him to see if he would be loyal before giving him one of the more worthwhile job offers. It wasn't like Vaalon was cold to him, quite the opposite in fact. The cyborg was quite friendly and easy to talk to and confide in as far as employers went. Vega learned that his silver tongue was something to watch out for, but Vaalon came off as a decent guy for the most part.
Eventually, Vega's holdout would seemingly pay off as one night found Vaalon pushing his way into Vega's dorm while he was cleaning his gear. Excited, Vaalon proceeded to tell Vega they had finally managed to acquire a job offer to work with the New Jedi Order and Republic. The job, essentially, was training Padawan learners how to fight; mainly for the discipline that training taught, but also because a little self defense never hurt anyone. For nearly an hour, Vaalon was practically ranting over the job and how it would give them the chance they needed, that it was their chance to wipe away the stigma bounty hunters dealt with until now. The entire time as Vega listened, he'd learnt over time to become attuned to when Vaalon was laying on his charm to get things to go the way he wanted, and this was one of those times. After all the time spent working together though, part of Vega wanted to believe that despite the nagging sensation there was something more behind Vaalon than he let show, Vaalon was just being a good friend and finally giving him his time to shine with a job that he could benefit from. What eventually won Vega over indefinitely was when Vaalon disclosed to him briefly the jedi might have some unique combat techniques. Combat techniques that weren't known to most outside the Order. Unable to pass up on such an opportunity to possibly get his hands on even one of them, Vega accepted the job to Vaalon's delight.
