Background
In the innermost circles of Imperial high society, there is no want. You have no hunger nor thirst; no risk of life or limb. Every new fad can be pursued, every little whim fulfilled. The challenges of life that trillions across the galaxy face each and every day fade away, a nightmare of yester-year that has since been eradicated by the Emperor's good graces.
So without challenge, those who move in such circles must create their own. To outsiders, the life led by those flitting socialites must seem idyllic - drifting from fancy party to fancy party, everyone happy, cheerful and contented, spending whole months lazing about in grand estates and setting schedules for placid games on expansive lawns. But those who live that life know that just below the surface, bloody battles are fought each and every moment.
For those who have everything, the only thing that cannot be controlled is the perceptions of others. Social standing becomes the currency over which these battles are fought; and they are fought with sly words, subtle gestures, hushed rumors, and bitter hate, all from behind masks of charm and gentility.
The third daughter and fifth child of eight of "Lord" Almoff Belami, Kalira was born and raised in this place. Lord Belami was not nobility of any planet as such, but his family's vast wealth has existed for centuries of the old Republic, and with the new order of Palptine's Empire, new business had expanded his wealth to proportions beyond imagining. Buying politicians is now his stock and trade, manipulating them for no real reason other than that he can - he often remarks that he "owns the Slice," for all the politicians who must bow to his whim or risk their seats.
Kalira seemed misplaced in this world at first, unable to grasp the true subtleties of the verbal riparte that occurred in the elite circles, but as she grew she hit her stride, becoming a true powerhouse in the underhanded world she inhabited. Anyone she set her sights on destroying would not last long - vicious rumors wormed their way around the target yet somehow with no clear trace back to where they began. While she had a group of other young socialites gathered around her that she called her "friends," that word had no real meaning in that life - some were there to benefit from her power, some to stay out of her path, some to curry favor with her father, and others to try and bring her down from within. In that life, everyone is out for themselves, and no one offers help without thinking they're getting much more in return.
But while she is powerful in the circles in which she moves, storm clouds are gathering on her horizon, unseen by her, but ready to blow her away from everything she knows...
Motivation
Ambition: Wealth
Connection: Friendship
Kalira's initial motivation is to return herself to her former place in the Imperial social elite, with all the perks that come with it. Power, money, influence, ease, and even the challenge of the cunning social fencing that the squabbling families took part in are all things she desires, feels have been stolen from her, and that she believes that she deserves. She desperately wants all that back.
However, buried inside her, so deep that she has forgotten it was there, she really wants to stop the deceptions and subterfuge and lies and have someone, or someones, she can truly trust and honestly call her friends. As she grows on her journey, her ambition will wane and her desire for true connections will grow.
Of course, based on the life she's led previously, actually achieving that level of trust will be difficult - when you spend your entire life learning that no one can be trusted to mean what they say or do things for someone else without ulterior motive, learning to let that instinct go can often lead to disaster...
Morality
Emotional Strength: Compassion
Emotional Weakness: Arrogance
Having been raised in perfect entitlement, Kalira has become arrogant and vain about herself and her perceived self-importance. She's a member of one of the most influential families in the dominant species in the dominant government of the galaxy - the universe belongs to her and she acts like it.
But through it all, she has been sheltered from having to experience, or even truly see, the real suffering that happens throughout the galaxy. While her true core has been muddied and befouled by the toxicity of her home environment, if she see's true suffering, she is unable to bring herself to ignore it. In those rare moments, Kalira's true self shines through, and she gives selflessly.
