Background
1. Meili was always a lucky person, a crate of cargo that would have crushed the young boy, instead miraculously missed. His true powers were reveled when the pirates were thrown out the ship's window in a moment of terror.
2. The Gold Fang Pirates seized Meili's family's ship, in the assault, both his mother and father were killed before his eyes. The young man barely survived because of his untrained and raw power. Ever since Meili has been tracking the Gold Fang's Captain, in search of righteous vengeance.
3. While drifting across the Galaxy in search of his retribution, Meili witnessed a Jedi Knight help defend a defenseless settlement from a group of slavers. After learning of the Order, Meili set out to join, hoping to help others and gain the resources to find his mark.
4. The Former Captain of the Gold Fangs, a cruel Zabrak named Toraka who killed Meili's mother and father. The young Jedi has been tracking down the pirate for over a year since, he's come close more than once, but hasn't killed the man, yet.
5. During his time as a drifter, slowly making his way to the Order, Meili has helped various cargo ships on their routes. This specific incident was on a ship carrying medical supplies that encountered a refugee ship that fled the Empire. Meili managed to convince the captain of the ship he was aboard to donate some of the supplies to those who needed it.
Motivation
(Pursuit) Self-Reliance - It's a dangerous galaxy, with governments being overthrown and whole planets being destroyed. No matter where, the character always works to avoid any need for help, for there will always be times when either no one is present or able to offer assistance.
Meili is always willing to help those who need it, even if it harms himself, he feels a deep connection with victims and the downtrodden, in part because of his own feelings of weakness. He, however, refuses to accept help from others, his empathy is rooted in his fear of being defenseless, needing help himself means he is too weak to help others. That's terrifying.
Morality
Morality - 40
(Strength) Empathy - The Character easily understands and even feels the emotions of those nearby, even when they are guarding their true feelings. Knowing how their actions affect others, the character is careful to treat others with kindness and dignity.
(Weakness) Vengence - Caring overly for others, especially victims, can lead the character to desire revenge against those who made them suffer. Only when such targets are tracked down and brought low can balance be restored.
Meili will always take the side of any person he sees as being wronged and attempts to console those who are upset. He makes a point to try and keep him and his allies spirit light-hearted with a well-placed comment. For those who wrong others, however, he is unforgiving and will go out of his way to engage them, whether it be a genocidal empire or a bully.
Description
A young man, well built from a life of hard work and travel, he often lets his brown, matty, hair stay in whatever position it lands in every morning. A stubble often growing from his chin, more from a lack of shaving than a choice in style. His brown eyes are slightly sunken into his face, that combined with the weathered lines clearly display his general lack of sleep. Despite all of that, he stands straight and proud, not afraid to look another person in the eyes.
Meili Xa was born aboard a starship to two wanderers, a couple that left their homeworld to be with each other. The vast majority of Meili's childhood was spent with the hum of engines in his ears and the feeling of G-force tugging at him. Meili was born 4 years after the Battle of Yavin, but he never really got to be a kid like other people do. As the first, and only, child of a couple of traveling cargo haulers and part-time smugglers, the youngest Xa was needed to pull his own weight as early as possible. At 10 years old, he was trusted to act as the Family Navigator and an extra hand in unloading crates. When the young boy wasn't on duty, he often listened to stories on the Holo-net of New Republic Heroes fighting the remnants of the Empire. He dreamed of one day becoming like them.
The day Meili's life ended, didn't actually start all that awful. It was his 18th birthday, old enough to be considered a man among spacers. His Mother and Father hosted a simple birthday as the ship went along trade routes the family had seen a hundred times before. Meili's father gave him his present, a Fiver Pistol, a thousand credits, and a pat on the back. The young man was close to tears at this, it meant that he was ready, finally ready to fly from the nest and head out on his own. The feeling was shattered moments later as alarms began to blare.
Pirates, the Gold Fangs, had pulled the cargo ship out of hyperspace and had begun to attack. It was an organized effort on a major route, things like this didn't happen, they had never happened before. The Family Ship wasn't equipped for battle like this, not an hour later the boarding party had entered, at their head, a Zabrak with a cruel smirk and dead eyes. Meili's father was always a strong headed man, he couldn't just let his ship, his family, his life, be given over to these damned pirates without putting up a fight.
It was two swift blasts, straight through the head.
Meili shouted as the Zabrak ordered his family dead, a wave of energy, of force, caused the pirates to fly backward, shattering the viewing port as the oxygen rapidly left the ship. A moment later, as the emergency airlock began, Meili was gone from the Pirates' sight. They didn't bother to search the ship, clearly, this ship was with the Jedi, they couldn't risk staying a moment longer, though they fired on the cargo hauler once more for good measure. Meili stayed huddled in the corner, somehow invisible to the Pirates' eyes.
For the next year, Meili Xa had one thing keeping him alive, finding that Gold Fang and it's Zabrak captain. Hopping from hauler to hauler, scrapping credit for credit, living day to day, Meili searched him out. He made few friends during that time, few wanted to speak to the boy with fire in his eyes and shadow at his back. It was on a backward fueling town that Meili forgot about the pain in his chest and lost the tears just behind his eyes.
A group of slavers had ridden into town, rounding up those weaker than them to sell off to some wealthy hutt. Meili began to pull the Fiver from its holster, prepared to die earlier than he liked, but at least it'd be for something good. Then the Jedi arrived, she said it was the Force that told her to land, doesn't really matter. She ripped them to shreds, their blasters never even touched her, a crescendo of light and death, in an instant the town was saved. In that instant, Meili knew what he had to become.
He wasn't able to speak to the Jedi, only learned after that she was from Yavin, a school with hundreds like her. The folks there thought only fools would go become a Jedi, Meili was a fool. He still hated that Zabrak, still wanted to destroy the Gold Fang, but he also knew he had to help people as she did. His wandering had new purpose, he went from ship to ship, helping towns and saving people, at least as much as he could.
Now finally, he reached Yavin, he proved himself good enough to be taught, and now he just needed to learn. One day, he'd make sure no one suffered again, one day, no one would dare cause another to suffer, because one day, Meili Xa would be a Jedi Master.
