Background

Raj always wanted to be a great doctor. Unfortunately he was too dim to realize he was not suited to the work, and he was too stubborn to give up on it. Raj Bunko was seen as an idiot even by other Gungans. They had long ago decided that there would be insufficient return on investment in letting him train to be a doctor. Unfortunately, he would not give up and kept petitioning for training.

When a group of off-world researchers approached the Gungans for assistance in setting up a hydroponics lab on a remote watery moon in a system in the outer rim, the Gungan council saw their chance. They would provide shield technology for the underwater research station and assist in getting it up, in return would receive funds to cover the cost of the equipment, and rights to use any advancements that came from the lab. As an additional gesture of friendship, the Gungan council would send Raj to be their medical tech for a period of 10 years.

After Raj was "volunteered" to go, the council provided him with years worth of medical texts in video and audio book format to take with him as part of his training. When asked, Raj will proudly tell the questioner that he trained in medicine at a prestigious hydroponics lab. He will go on to inform them that he was responsible for caring for many types of sick and injured beans.

Raj has beautiful penmanship and is always eager to write someone a prescription for anything that may be ailing them. Unfortunately, while the characters are expertly crafted, the message itself is incomprehensible. This goes back to a misunderstanding Raj had in his early schooling. He misunderstood having to learn to "read and write" as having to learn to "read OR write". He enjoyed writing more, so focused solely on making the letters as perfectly scripted as possible.

The hydroponics lab realizes they got the short end of the stick when it comes to Raj. The 10 year contract is binding and more expensive than it is worth to get out of. To get a respite from their "doctor", the lab is always willing to sub-contract Raj's services out to anyone that seems to need so much as a first aid kit.

Motivation

Creation: Business: Creating a new business to serve an untapped market is a dream shared by many Colonists. Most of those traveling to a new world hope only to open up a shop where they can ply their trade, but some think bigger A business started on a small colony may eventually grow to be an enterprise that rivals Kuat Drive Yards or Corellian Engineering Corporation.

Raj wants to build a prestigious hospital when his contract is up at the hydroponics lab. He is still deciding where he wants it to be.

Obligations

Contracted: (??? obligation) The Colonist has entered into a long-term contract with a corporation or government related to his work at a colony. In many cases, these contracts are how colonists pay their passage to the new world—a form of indentured servitude Colonists might be contracted to provide bookkeeping, labor, or any other number of services. Failure to live up to a contract can result in financial penalties, imprisonment, deportation, or earning a bounty.
