Background

Lum's people are not fully integrated into galactic society, so making the choice to leave home makes her unique among the other Mustafarians. While there is room in her culture for inventors and engineers, she seeks to elevate to a level that can't be achieved in those conditions, training incessantly and picking up any knowledge any way they can. Working in a space port gave her the opportunity to learn a lot about different ship designs, new tech and machinery, as well as meet many new people, joining the Republic Navy has given her the chance to sail the stars and absorb all the galaxy has to offer her.

Motivation

Ambition: Expertise.
Lum wants to excel in their chosen profession and constantly practices to achieve perfection. She hopes to one day develop an invention or innovation that revolutionizes some field of science or engineering. She is keen on introducing novel twists to known designs or trying completely new and wild solutions to problems.

There is no more prolific or productive time for technological developments than during a war, and this one is no exception. Lum sees the true opportunity for Republic victory in the hands of scientists, engineers, and technicians. Not only can they get the most performance from existing machines and resources, but they can design and develop new ships, weapons, medical techniques, and equipment that can provide the vital edge necessary to survive against the Sith's might.
