Down and out: The player may decide that the character comes from humble or hardscrabble beginnings. Characters from this type of background strive to better themselves and do their utmost to escape their plight. The character either trains incessantly, picking up knowledge any way that they can, or simply is tough and resourceful enough to go out on their own.

Mentor: The character is particularly close to a mentor, professor, teacher or other figure that provided support, knowledge, and wisdom to them in their early years.

Servitude: Although the Smuggler might act like they are their own boss, they are actually the property of another and must either hand over any earnings or evade their owner entirely. The Smuggler could deal with this Obligation by earning enough credits to buy their freedom, or they could kill or otherwise remove their master.
