Born in a small farming community on Corellia, he learned the virtues of freedom and hard work early. While working on the farm he would spend all of his free time reading books of legendary fighter pilots and their exploits. When he turned 17 he enrolled in the Corellian Security Forces Sector Defense Fleets Academy where he trained to be a pilot. He chose to enroll there instead of the Imperial Academy on Carida because he didn’t feel like flying in a death trap and the Empire was all too authoritarian for his liking. He spent a year there learning then 2 years in the fleet fighting pirates and smugglers where he mastered his craft and perfected his flying. Flying as part of the flashy elite squadron Vortex he learned to master his skills quickly or get rotated out. In those 2 years, his squadron witnessed multiple atrocities against civilians and the use of overwhelming force against targets that didn’t warrant them. When news spread of the destruction of Alderaan and the Battle of Yavin IV his whole unit defected to the Corellian Sector Cell led by Garm Bel Iblis. With the Corellian Security Force already using X-Wings it made it a very easy transition as most of the people he served with also came from a similar background and skill level with the snub fighters. He fought in a couple of small raids against the Empire the last of which ended in the destruction of the rest of his unit. With that, the Rebellion reviewed his skills and thought it would be better if he was assigned to high command so they could have him train with the best before they gave him his own command. He trained with the Rogue Group as they refined his skills and even evaluated him to be on the list of people capable of being chosen for the squadron. He was then put in Renegade Flight and flew with them until the Battle of Hoth.
