Raised on Ord Mantell and scrappy in their youth, Vanall has carved out a comfortable enough living not far from their hometown. For years they've been working as a mechanic for the various and sundry machinery that makes the less-than-legan work in the [crime syndicate]-run scrapyard possible. They had what they needed to get along, liked the work well enough, and paid little mind to the broader happenings.

Freedom - Vanall wants to work to live, not live to work. They had it good before, but the debt's taken that away.

This could probably be changed into a broader attitude of seeking justice for the little guy when they see the way this isn't just a problem for them and that everyone should have the decent life they want.

Vanall lived with their brother, Zik. They knew he was in business with [crime syndicate], but never paid much mind to the details or his comings and goings. It came as a surprise, then, when Zik disappeared-- presumably to escape the massive debt Vanall didn't know about. [The syndicate] "informed" Vanall they'd be responsible for the debt. Since then, they've demanded more and more from Vanall-- longer hours, harder and less questionable work, and eventually [whatever gets them in with the party-- mechanic on a smuggling ship, etc.].

Vanall needs to pay off the debt, and wants an explenation from Zik.
