Background
A Force-sensitive Wookiee, Gungi was trained in the ways of the Force at the Coruscant Jedi Temple. When the Clone Wars erupted between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems, and the war was waged around them, Gungi was deemed to be one of the top members of his clan and suitable to travel to the sacred Jedi world of Ilum to participate in the ancient ritual known as The Gathering. He found his kyber crystal there in the crystal caves, and went on to construct a green-bladed lightsaber.
Some time later, Gungi was well into his apprenticeship when Order 66 came. His master was slain by the madman Anakin Skywalker, and Gungi was rescued by none other than Grandmaster Yoda.
Motivation
Faith in the Rebellion.
Having experienced the evil that is General Grievous firsthand, and having lost the entire Jedi Order, Gungi has placed all his faith in the Rebellion and what he sees as a righteous cause.
