Krennel came to Thakwaa as a very young child. His mother, a physician specializing in Xenology, was approached by a "fate reader" soon after he was born. She was told that he was destined for great trials. But for that to happen, she must follow her own.The reader presented her with an intricate design that should be passed to her son upon the completion of his task.
She had recently been offered an opportunity to serve as doctor to a colony on Thakwaa and was wavering on whether such a place would be proper for her young son. The meeting with the fate reader solidified her decision and she took the position. Upon arrival on the planet she heard about the trials set before the Thakwaan and the colonists by the Jedai. She knew immediately that this is what Krennel was destined for. It broke her heart though to hear that the children did not return.
In the year in between, in addition to treating all manner of colonists, she was one of the few who traveled to the plains to meet with the Thakwaan and provide medical aid. She became very well versed in treating their common ailments and soon was directly sought out at her colony when they were in need of help. Krennel, though all of this, was by her side. She insisted on giving him as much of a "proper" education as she could even without formal facilities. He was smart and a fast learner. But he also enjoyed the wilds of nature often venturing off on his own to explore.
