Once a student of the Pirate Queen herself, Maz Kanata who trained Chan in both the ways of the Force and the underworld. Despite being a fixture of the underworld, Maz Kanata prided herself on not involving her or her entourage in any immoral or even downright evil activities. Hers was a place of refuge and sanctuary, not outright criminality. Adept at using the Force for finding navigational shortcuts and hidden locations, many pirates who frequented Takodana came to rely on Chan for his expertise. As Chan was pulled closer and closer into the criminal elements, so too was he drawn to the Dark Side. He began to question the utility Maz’s ethics, accusing her of hypocrisy. Eventually Chan was forced out as Maz’s ward and left aboard the first pirate ship off world. Chan is one of the rare pirates in the Galaxy who is not welcome or eligible for the services of Maz Kanata’s Castle.
