Background
Grease monkey
As a dug I grew up on Malastare, a world plagued by thick jungles and savage beasts. With the fuel being a major export and source of income the dug population would clear out large sections of forest to make way for settlements and refineries. I was born in such a settlement and when I came of age I began working at the refinery. It was there that I developed a affinity for tech and machines. I felt at peace, in my own world when I was fixing things and working in machines, things were simple...
Something better than machines
One day while I was working on a broken down drill when a new batch of transfers came in. Most them were ordinary but one of them... let's just say she was extraordinary, very extraordinary. Her name was Jarheea, she was so vibrant and saw in the world in a way that I could only dream about. I've always been pretty robotic, mechanical in the way I did and viewed things. I looked at facts, statistics, numbers but she saw the essence of things, the beauty that this universe has to offer in nearly every facet of life. I was drawn to it, and her. She had come as part of a archaeological division to investigate any artifacts or findings that we come as while mining for oil. These instances weren't uncommon but there was a lot of time in between discoveries. Because of this she was often offworld exploring the galaxy. She loved going on expeditions to explore and hunt for treasure and lost artifacts. Unfortunately that meant I didn't get to see her much, however when she was around I tried to make the most of it...
A connection
Some time has past and we began to grow rather fond of one another. She stopped going on her adventures which I happy about, at first. Jarheea began to lose that glow that she once had, being confined to Malastare was draining her spirit. So after some thought I decided to leave the refinery and follow her on her journey through the galaxy. I had never left home before, I was terrified, but I loved her and some part of me wanted to experience the wonder and beauty that she experiences. So we left...
The great unknown
Jarheea and I traveled to many corners of the galaxy going on treasure hunts, expeditions and many other types of adventures. Every journey was enriching but also extremely terrifying. I like my comfort zone but on every trip I am constantly being thrown out of it. Jarheea is the opposite, she has no comfort zone, every experience is exciting for her. Every dangerous encounter, every fierce storm, every old bridge she charges head on with absolute bravery, dragging frightened me in tow. I always warn her of the dangers ahead of us but she always says "life isn't worth living hiding in fear". Every time she I hear those words they ring through my soul, my fears melt away and I'm always by her side come what may. I became something of a merchant for us to help fund out expeditions. It wasn't a bad gig either since we usually come across valuable artifacts on our adventures. There was one artifact that we kept however, a necklace, our very first finding on our very first expedition. We could tell there was something special about it, so I put it around Jarheea's neck and she hasn't taken it off since. I felt like she saved me, from a mundane life trapped in my bubble on Malastare. I was so lucky to have her, for the time I had her anyways...
Nothing last forever
There was another mission that lingers in my mind, one that I wish wouldn't, the one where everything changed. We've never had much trouble locating artifacts since we started exploring, Jarheea said that she never had so much luck until she started traveling with me, she called me her good luck charm. However I didn't feel so lucky when out lastest venture brought us to a ominous looking cave deep in the Yavin 4 jungle. We had been hired to locate and retrieve a sith relic lost somewhere in this vicinity. As usual I'd follow Jarheea, she always seemed to know where to go and exactly where to look, it was uncanny. Eventually we reached the cave and I could feel my body shouting warning signals at me. "Something is wrong, we shouldn't do this. I have a very bad feeling about this Ja." She said "You always say that! It'll be fine, just be on your toes." I nervously followed her into the caves depths, I had been frightened and had bad feelings before but this was different. There was a sinister presence here, I know she had to have felt it, but she was brave and stubborn. Eventually we came to the end of the cave and there it was, a mask with an ethereal glow around it. We grabbed it and quickly headed out if the cave. She turned to me as we exited the entrance and said "See? You worry too much!" Right at that moment I felt the sensation that I felt earlier in the cave. I froze and turned around to see a giant silhouette standing behind Jarheea. I couldn't speak, I was paralyzed with fear. She looked at me wide eyed, knowing that there was something behind her. The beast lunged for her, in a split second I jumped and pushed her out of the way. The beasts claw connected with my body, sending me flying into a nearby tree. My vision left me and I had just enough consciousness left to her my beloved scream, a scream that will haunt me for the rest of my life...
A savior
I woke up with a human male standing over me, covered in blood. He kept asking my name but I was unable to answer from the shock and physical trauma. I passed out again. This time I woke up floating in a bacta tank, the same man was looking back at me through the glass. I passed out once more and awoke in a bed, unsure of where I was and what had happened. I turned to my left and saw the man sitting next to me meditating. He looks over at me and says "Hey, you're finally awake. How are you feeling my little friend?" Weakly I say "I-I-I think I'm ok, who... who are you?" He smiled and said "You can call me Kavar and who might you be?" Wincing from the pain I said " Neebo, but w-w-where is my wife?" His disposition turns grim upon hearing my question and he sits back in his chair. I can feel my heart sink and my body being overcome with despair. He pulls her necklace out of his pocket, "I'm afraid this is all that was left of her, I'm so sorry my friend." I'm in shock, I don't know how to react or what to do or say. I just lay there, staring at the ceiling. Kavar places the necklace on the bed next to me and exits the room. I'm not sure how long I laid there, unable to move, unable to even shed a tear...
Keep moving
After a few days I was finally healthy enough to move on my own. I walked outside to find Kavar conversing with several important looking people outside. I looked around to find that I was in an unfamiliar city, I didn't recognize anything. I walked up to Kavar and he turned around and dismissed the group around him. "Ah, you're up!" He said. "Yes, umm where are we?" "Oh, this is the walled city of Iziz on the planet Onderon. I had to get you off Yavin quickly to heal your wounds otherwise you wouldn't have made it." I wish he would have just left me to die but I couldn't say that. "Well thank you, you have my deepest gratitude Kavar. May I ask what happened that day? How did you find me before I was killed?" He looks at me and points to the necklace in my hand "I found that, I could feel it's energy. It also led me and my...late companions to that evil beast's lair." I looked back at him confused from many of the things he was saying. "Late? Energy? I'm sorry I don't understand..." He pulls his cloak aside and reveals two lightsabers at his waist. "I am a Jedi and I was traveling with two dear friends I search of the Terentatek, a horrible and twisted abomination. Sadly I lost both of them to the same monster that stole your wife from you. They are pure evil and need to be exterminated. Unfortunately I was able to fell the beast so I retreated and took you with me. I am deeply sorry about your wife..." I was still in shock about the her but at the same time I felt bad for my Jedi savior as well. He too had experienced a devastating loss, same as me. He then shifted his demeanor and said "Well now all we can do is keep moving. No matter what my little friend. What are you going to do now?" I looked down and said "I don't know...I think I'll stay in Iziz for a few days and get my bearings and then figure things out." "Of course! You're also more than welcome to stay here anytime you're in Iziz. Be safe my friend, I have some urgent matters to attend to. Until we meet again." With that he left and I had stayed in Iziz for a nearly a week before leaving. I held onto the necklace which was now tied around my neck and vowed to continue the life we led. I know that nothing would stop her from moving on and nothing would stop me. Before I departed for my next adventure I began to shake uncontrollably, I reached into my pocket, pulled out a deathstick and inhaled. As I exhaled a cloud of smoke my body became still. "I just have to keep moving..."
