Background
The Kinoo clan was a relatively benign family amongst the treetops of Chad. Botanists and arboreal farmers by trade, they were one of the few Chadra-Fan clans whose connection to Chad resonated strongly enough to keep them tied to the planet, even as so many had fled as a result of the Death Wave of years past. Theirs was a simple life, but for one of their children, it was far, far too boring.
Jeek was easily the 'wild child' of the family, even by the relatively outgoing standards of the Chadra-Fan as a whole. Many Chadra-Fan children would take up tinkering when young- Jeek sought to cobble together whole machines. It wasn't enough. Some of the clans would take up scouting and exploration to recover, re-map and scavenge from the ruined areas from tsunamis past. It wasn't enough.
And to many, the prospect of being anywhere but the Chadra-Fan's own treetop homes during one of the smaller, seasonal tsunamis that would strike Chad regularly would be insane; let alone striving to cobble together a sail and bark board together as a sailboard to ride the waves.
It wasn't enough.
Suffice to say, Jeek's final youthful indiscretion on Chad left him stranded far from any remaining native clans. Nominally his story would have ended there, had he not been picked up by a slaver barge scouring the planet at the time.
Taken offworld and serving for some time, the new sights, smells and experiences proved to keep Jeek's mind occupied for a time. Despite whatever rough treatment he received, he would easily outperform expectations- while also giving back as good as he got by slipping away binders and restraints, slipping spice into his overseers' food, among other pranks. Indeed, some overseers had taken notice of Jeek's clever disposition, and would leverage his potential for thievery, which would only prove another distraction for the Chadra-Fan's wandering mind.
He would go on to earn his keep for a couple masters, that is until he discovered the world of gambling. Sabacc, Hintaro, games of chance all, Jeek's interest fixated almost immediately as his mind ran with the possibilities, and in perhaps his smartest yet most reckless decision yet, proffered a wager to his then-master. One high-stakes game of Sabacc later, he would find himself with a degree of freedom- no longer bearing a slave collar, but saddled with a loan and a mission: to both return his loan with interest, and to provide his master with information on rival cartels through the gambling underworld.
Jeek was successful, for a time, he made inroads with a number of dens, steadily building contacts and raking in winnings. But his naivety and lack of trained skill would ultimately get the better of him, depleting his funds and leaving him with no resources to push on. Quite blissfully uncaring of his predicament, his brief stint still uncovered news of the goings-on of the sector, and with it murmurs of the New Republic Scouts' reformation. An easy way to strike two birds with one stone, to fill his ever-present need for excitement, and to get far, far away from his former owner...
Motivation
Ambition - Wanderlust/Novelty
Jeek is endlessly curious, far and beyond most Chadra-Fan. While his exploits will see him to many locations, doing many things, and dredging up many a problem, he is not a particularly standoffish fellow. Much like any other Chadra-Fan, he thoroughly enjoys the company of others, and indeed they can provide interest to Jeek simply through learning about them. That is, if they're able to stand his reckless abandon and tendency to bring trouble home with him.
Obligations
Addiction - 20
Jeek is an anomaly even among the energetic and curious Chadra-Fan. Where most are content with taking apart and rebuilding machines, Jeek simply is not satisfied without the rush of usage in the field. Without the chance of malfunction, without the constant presence of risk and thrill ever occupying his mind. He is a pathological thrillseeker, and the risk of his current activity or lot proving 'boring' to him is ever present.
While a lot of things can potentially fulfill this need, gambling has proven to be a relatively steady panacea for this urge at present, as it thoroughly occupies his mind with calculating probabilities and strategies.
Debt - 5
While Jeek's former owners are likely quite far away, and his freedom technically won, the initial loan he received for his initial outing still remains on the books. There may yet be a fair chance that even in the wilderness some unscrupulous types may hear the news and seek to deliver a 'message' on the cartels' behalf. Likely not a good one.
Description
Jeek is of average height by Chadra-Fan standards, with coarse, wiry auburn fur. His feet have wide-set toes and his ears reach just a bit taller, with tufts of fur on their tips. Behind one ear he normally ties some of his longer fur into a braid which- to one observing closely- would notice a deep scar that the braid covers up. One might also notice the abrasions and unhealthy patches of fur around his neck- a holdover from his long time wearing a slave collar.
