Background
B1-COM, dubbed 'Beacon', was discovered several years ago, operational but in a disheveled state, in an old temple near a military outpost that seemed to have been abandoned since the Clone Wars. His early history is shrouded in unknowns, even to himself, as much of his memory has been irrevocably corrupted over the years, blurring his rise to droid sentience.
Originally a standard B1 Battle Droid, constructed on Kudo III, Beacon should have been unable to develop significant memory corruption to achieve higher true sentience, but he appears to have received significant cross-model upgrades, but why or how he acquired them and how they were installed is a mystery.
Since being "rescued", Beacon has become a fixture at the great temple, and been lovingly restored by apprentices, receiving further upgrades with the repairs. Considered an antique curiosity by some, he has an encyclopedic knowledge of a great many things, especially relating to the Confederacy of Independent Systems and the Republic just prior to the rise of the Empire, although he sometimes have problems accessing his memory banks. He has rededicated his life accordingly, serving as a protocol droid as well as custodian whenever necessary, eager to serve what was likely his former enemies.
Motivation
• Discovery - Self:
Beacon may pursue any number of goals, cataloguing knowledge, helping his allies to the best of his ability, or wander the galaxy until something catches his interest. His main purpose, however, is to discover who he truly is and what he is meant to do with his existence. Each new path offers him a chance to learn something new about himself, and each challenge he faces gives him insight into what he is really capable of. For many explorers, this is a journey that will only end with their deaths - and, possibly, not even then.
Morality
• Reason: With a droid's clarity of vision and inherent ability to look at situations objectively, Beacon is able to observe the natural state of things without being influenced by strong emotions, giving way to well-considered decision-making.
• Camaraderie: Beacon works well as part of a team whether leading or following, remianing loyal to comrades no matter what. He is quikcl to recognize strengths and weaknesses of others and works to ensure the group stays together and functions effectively.
• Coldness: Beacon's skills at detached observation can easily lead to a type cold and machiavellian pragmatism in which the potential cost of choices beyond the purely material is not taken into consideration.
• Conformity: When working with others, Beacon has a tendency to value group cohesion above all else, seeing the opinions of outsiders or even himself as unimportant. He may sometimes forget to trust personal instincts and ideas, preferring to fit in with the group and command decisions rather than voice or hear a differing opinion.
Description
In most regards, Beacon's form would is that of a standard B1 Battle Droid; 1.93m (6'3'') tall, 65 kg (~143 lbs), with thin and angular limbs, a torso that is narrow and slightly hunched, connected by visible cabling and hydraulic pistons, and an elongated and flattened head with recessed photoreceptors in shallow sockets.
To those that have seen the B1 Battle Droids, however, he is considerably different. Much of his casing has been lovingly recrafted in jade metal5 and matte brass, accentuating what remains of his original tan shell, and what would normally be exposed joints and servomotors have been completely remodeled and covered, making him appear more as a durable high-end curiosity than an refurbished antique.
He has several hooked-in electromagnetic containers distributed across his skeletal frame, as well as a remodeled integrated transmission- and battery-pack with expanded storage on his back, capable of acting as a full communications array.
