Background
His Kenu clan was often mocked for being amateur...
Sometimes it was hard for Toyo not to agree…
Nobody from his clan had taken a single award from the Goa-Ato Hunters Guild in over a decade.
Those that know Rodian culture will know of its obsession with violence and death. It was this same obsession that pushed his father to pursue a career as a Ghestslayer. His career lasted exactly one day, instead of returning home to Toyo and his mother for dinner, he became dinner.
A comfortable life sheltered within the safety of a bubble dome came to a sudden end. His grieving mother was forced out of desperation to take a job at backwater jungle cantina way out from the civilisation they had become accustomed to. Out on their own, times were tough, without any other real options and urged by his Mother - Toyo joined the local Jungle Corp who were assigned to policing the sector and protecting its inhabitants.
Pvt. Kaneda lacked discipline, he resented the authority of the higher ups and was bored with the menial tasks that came with a large but relatively deserted sector of jungle. Repeated tardiness meant he had come a Loth Cat hair away from being turfed from his division on numerous occasions.
He was tolerated for only one reason - he was the best shot in the division. He loved to shoot, and his bosses had plans to parade him around like a Twi’lek Dancer during the coveted marksman challenges at the next annual InterCorp tournament.
Determined to once more stick it to his commanding officers - despite reaching the finals Toyo had purposely missed a crucial shot! The satisfaction he found in sending that last bolt way off target and into the sky was short lived. He was immediately placed on leave as a “reward” for finishing second place, in reality the Corp was deciding how he could best be punished without raising suspicion.
The one benefit of this rare leave was that he had chance to visit his Mother.
Rodian’s as a race are rarely overweight, Hoolu was the exception.
Toyo had never met a more disgusting, obnoxious and frankly annoying being in all his years.
His Mother had met him whilst working in the Cantina, she somehow turned his gropey advances into the story of an epic romantic meeting.
He had moved in his family home 6 months later and now his Mother played lackey at home as well as work.
Toyo voiced his disappointment to his Mother, “it has only been 10 years since Dad left, how can you do this?”
With some poorly hidden sadness she described how hard it was to make ends meet as she got older, it would be “much easier with a second income” and explained how Hoolu had made a ton of credits as a talent manager in the ever-popular Rodian theatre.
Toyo despised Hoolu,
Whilst he sympathised with her situation, he hated what his Mother had done too.
With his career as a soldier all but over and a burning desire to get as far away as possible through gritted teeth he accepted a job that Hoolu set up through his connections with the theatre and went AWOL.
It was a blatant attempt to get him out of the picture again, but it was the only way a poor Rodian was going to get off planet anytime soon.
The role was as a stuntman, particularly one that could perform ‘feats of skill with a blaster rifle’. It was felt that genuine experience and combat training would help sell the realism of the typically ultra-violent combat found in Rodain thatre productions.
Toyo was soon off world and travelling with his new Theatre Troupe -
First Drall then on to Corellia.
The pay was dismal, but the stage was thrilling. For the first time since he could remember Toyo was happy, his part was small but allowed him to showcase his skill to the adulation of thousands.
It was going so well, until the closing show of the Corellia tour…
He had received an off world transmission earlier that day, his Mother had agreed to marry Hoolu.
Toyo engaged himself to the nearest Cantina and drank enough Corellian nectar to sink a Pleasure Barge.
If it wasn’t for the tour manager dragging him along, he would have missed the final show.
In the end he missed something much worse, highly intoxicated he was completely off beat and missed an important trick shot. badly.
He never did find out if the shot killed her, it had all been something of a blur. What did it matter to Toyo anyhow? He’d have plenty of time to think about it, courtesy of Correllian Security holding facilities...
