Background

I used to be the pilot of a small smuggling crew. I could fly almost any ship I touched and knew their mechanics well enough to repair them, well, at least enough to keep them mostly flying. We were making a name for ourselves and becoming more like a family than a crew. Until one day I received a message. We had just taken on a large and lucrative smuggling contract. Transport an unknown cargo to a secret base through a heavily guarded zone. However this message I received changed my mission. It offered me twice the credits if I betrayed my crew and sabotaged the mission. After I set the hyperdrive and we all retired for a much-needed rest I snuck down to the shielded cargo hold where our contracted cargo was stored and broke the bolts on the containers. A hiss of gas blew out of the container, and I began to hear a faint rumbling/growling noise. I ran as some terrifying-looking creature began to wake up. As I ran through the ship I began hearing tearing metal and screams from the crew. I quickly got to an escape pod and launched as I watched the ship begin to tear apart I saw a few more escape pods eject before the ship finally exploded.
