Background

Jib Buckell is the third child of an extremely wealthy Corellian shipping magnate. You've probably heard of the Buckell Center, the largest and most luxurious hotel and shopping center? It was founded by his great grandfather, and that's where he grew up.

His older sister will one day run the shipping business, his older brother will manage the hotel. His parents said Jib had to join the Imperial Navy, and used their influence to secure admission at the Academy on Coruscant. The story of how he left and joined the rebellion is for another day.

Jib studies hard, he has a strong sense of right and wrong, and is a very rational thinker. He was surprised and honored to be promoted to Lieutenant (?) and assigned to lead a squad in recognition of his training. Turns out that he got the post one because there are so few pilots with any leadership experience (and maybe another reason, too). He's never actually done this, but he has studied the regulations and is confident, he can succeed.
