Background
No one knows where Bane came from, if you ask him he'll say he used to be a torture droid working for an unknown creator. Other times he'll say he used to fight in the war alongside one of the Republic's finest pilots. Really, whatever story you get depends on the day.
Motivation
Bane has a faulty battery and requires regular maintenance and upkeep, which few are willing to do. So whomever can stand his antics is who he'll "tolerate" until he one day gets back into a proper frame.
