Background

“Grit’s” real name is Churgrit Voss, a member and Personal Bodyguard of the powerful criminal Voss family of Secundus Ando society. The factory planet is in part ruled by a criminal family which specializes in large, indentured workforces. It has little to do with the barbaric practice of slavery - these workers are merely paying off their debts. The Voss family is closely associated with the (off-world mining company), doing their dirty work: collecting the indentured assets’ debts, weeding out dissenters, enforcing corporate authority, and upholding the image of the franchise. Churgrit’s grandfather developed a strong relationship with the megacorp and his father took on the role of the “Assets Appropriation Officer” so the Voss family has a lot of influence and money. Churgrit’s father is the eldest of two sons and the main benefactor of all that the Megacorp has to offer, leaving his brother Urnir Voss (Churgrit’s Uncle) and his two sons Ylnol and Garg Voss (Churgrit’s Cousins) to scrape up what credits they can in the dark caverns below Secundus Ando’s surface. Churgrit’s father had been negotiating for the syndication of this megacorp by the Voss family until his life was ended by means unknown to Churgrit. The two cousins find Churgrit and expose the death of his father to him, taunting him that his only protection and tie to this unruly family has been severed. A fight breaks out and Churgrit Voss is driven from Secundus Ando with the blood of one of his cousins on his hands and a bounty on his head, set by the new “Assets Appropriation Officer”, Urnir. Churgrit’s only chance at a new life is to forge a new one in anonymity, his support from the megacorp are gone and he has made enemies with the other side of his family, who now hold the same gross amount of power and crooked influence his father once held. Churgrit Voss must rely on his street-smarts and often underhanded nature to navigate the galaxy as a hired gun and buy anonymity for himself. The truth behind the downfall of his father’s dynasty will come to him as the truth he believes (that it was his uncle, Urnir, behind his father’s death) or as a surprise… (if it was some larger authority)
