The droid 4D2-RA-7, nicknamed "42", was originally given as a gift to a high-level administrator within the Cyberdine Securities Venture by the Empire. When recording equipment was discovered within 42, he was quickly mothballed providing electronic security at an out of the way research facility on the toxic swamp planet Edialol. When the facility was raided by pirates, 42 was stolen, along with the contents of the facility. Lacking actual abilities as a protocol droid, but gifted with an extensive knowledge bank, 42 ended up on the Lofty Seasons carnival barge as a trivia game. CSV retrieval specialists attempted to regain possession of 42, concerned about proprietary information that could be contained within him. 42 attempted to flee the confrontation back to the Empire, but an errant ion blast disrupted Imperial Loyalty coding. 42 has now become an independent droid, attempting to avoid CSV and Imperial agents.

Freedom - While nominally a free droid, both CVS and the Empire claim ownership of 42. He seeks to eliminate these claims.

42 is a black metallic protocol droid with black faceted eyes. A number of semi-concealed hatches along its right leg serve as storage. A scomplink is concealed in his right hand. Walks with a slight hitch to his gait.
