A: Recruited by Master Tsar Wernok on Eshan.
Q4: Name one NPC your character has a strong connection with. This could be a family member, a friend, a work contact, or a bitter rival.
A: His twin brother Aedrax feels he was abandoned on Eshan. He likely feels that Aeronak purposely made him look incapable and blames him for his failure to impress Tsar.
Aeronak and his twin brother Aedrax were born on Eshan 12 years after the Battle of Yavin and can trace their lineage back to some of the most prominent members of the Echani people. Their mother was a descendant of the famous Jedi Battlemaster Raskta Lsu, while their father was the third son of a member of Echani High Command. While the matriarch of the family was not force-sensitive, the boys always had a strong connection to the force and were destined to do great things.
They began their training at a young age, as most Echani do, studying several subjects with their knowledgeable father when they weren’t doing intensive combat training with their martial-artist mother. The two always found themselves competing with each other, both physically and mentally. While Aeronak proved to be more naturally gifted in combat-oriented skills, his brother was somehow more cunning and quick-minded. The two were always at odds during training, but their mother never allowed them to bring that rivalry home with them. This rule didn’t entirely stop the competition between them, but they still cared for each other as only family could. They were connected by more than blood.
The two boys exceeded expectations time and again during their studies. They quickly became popular among their peers, but their more ‘unnatural’ abilities began to manifest as their physical and mental prowess grew. When the twins turned 12, they were finally introduced to a Jedi Knight named Tsar Wernok. The Jedi instantly recognized the potential in the two and informed their parents of it. While their father was hesitant to allow this stranger to take his children halfway across the galaxy to become followers of an ancient religion, their mother was overjoyed at the prospect that ‘her’ children had the potential to become Jedi. She gave the Knight her permission to take them, but Tsar would first demand a test to prove they were still balanced emotionally and had the strength to endure the training they would undergo.
Tsar prepared a series of physical tests that would bring out the best in both boys. First was an obstacle course that Aeronak managed to complete a full 8 seconds before his brother. Second was a weight-lifting competition. Aedrax was able to lift an impressive amount, but Aeronak again surpassed his brother. Finally, their was a hand-to-hand duel between the two. The fight was much closer than any sparring session the boys had done in the last several years, with Aedrax pushing his brother by allowing his emotions to fuel his body. Aeronak remained calm throughout the session, taking a beating at first before finally gaining the upper hand on his tiring opponent. He eventually managed to sweep his brother’s legs out from beneath him and delivered a finishing blow a moment after he collapsed. The physical aspects strained the twins greatly and pushed them to the limit, but both passed. The mental exam that the Jedi gave them was even more taxing. He could sense the rivalry between the two and the excitement they felt about what was to await them off-world. He sensed the determination of Aeronak to prove himself as a worthy candidate, but when he turned to Aedrax he sensed only a cold hatred for his brother.
The training was designed to bring out these emotions, to test the comandidate’s restraint and demeanor. The feelings he sensed in Aeronak led him to believe that the boy would be a fine addition to the New Jedi Order, while the hatred he sensed in the twin led him to believe that Aedrax was unworthy and needed to find peace in his life on Eshan. While the Jedi spoke with the twins’ parents about his decision, the two had sat outside their home and gazed into the sky. Exhausted from the tests, Aeronak was caught off-guard by his brother’s sudden outburst of emotions. Aedrax let loose a string of insults directed at the Jedi, claiming that he only wanted brutes to be Jedi. He cursed his brother for being an idiot and a thug before leaping to his feat and storming off. Aeronak was hurt by his brother’s words and was rising to chase after him when he was called inside by his mother. Tsar informed him that he would take only Aeronak to Yavin, should the boy wish to go. This opportunity was not something he could pass up and so he accepted. The two departed immediately, leaving behind the life that Aeronak had once known. While Aeronak was brave and sought to challenge himself, his reckless abandonment of his brother could have long-lasting consequences.
The next six years were filled with rigorous training and tests designed to hone the Echani’s connection to the force. He was set on the path of the Jedi Guardian by his recruiter and the new Jedi High Council. The role would suit him perfectly, all he had to do was complete his initiate training and become a padawan. Recently things took a turn for the worst however, when his recruiter (now Master Wernok) set up a trial to test Aeronak’s progress. He was sent deep into the jungle that covered most of Yavin IV’s surface and ordered to find his way back to the temple while being pursued by an unknown predator.
The chase started just over 10 miles out from the Praxeum grounds, with Aeronak only equipped with a training saber and survival pack. He began his trial by recklessly plunging into the brush, heading northward toward a small mountain peak. He didn’t open himself to the force and seek a path, instead he opted to let his physical instincts guide him. He ran into dangerous predators more than once, but deftly defeated or escaped each one with his overwhelming physical prowess. Unbeknownst to him, Master Wernok was hot on his trail. Tsar has camouflaged himself with a dark green cloak that hid him and his features well, but he allowed his presence to be detected in the force.
Disappointed in the young man’s choice to plunge into danger with no planning, Tsar Wernok prepared to leap out and knock Aeronak unconscious with the training stick he had on-hand. He attacked the initiate, shouting out as he lept from cover. He was surprised to discover that Aeronak’s reaction time was as fast as a Nexu hunter, clashing with the boy’s training saber instead of his chest. The two engaged in a short duel, but Tsar had been initially caught off-guard by the sudden retaliation and lost his footing. Aeronak overwhelmed his would-be attacker, using his natural abilities and close-quarters training to slap the staff away from Tsar before sweeping the older man’s feet from under him.
The Echani didn’t hold back though, letting his natural instinct take over he began to pummel his now prone attacker. Wernok had called out his surrender, but the younger man refused to back down. In a moment of brief anger and exasperation, Master Tsar lashed out with a force push. The blow sent Aeronak tumbling through the air and had he been prepared he might have realized that his opponent had been gathering power. Instead, he was hurled backward into a nearby tree. He slammed into the trunk with enough force to shatter a large chunk of the brittle bark, but still managed to regain his composure before Tsar could rise to his feet.
In that moment Aeronak also allowed his emotions to take control. He charged forward with enough speed and precision that the Jedi Master could barely react. Driving his training saber forward with enough power to overwhelm a rancor, Aeronak shattered the defenses of his trainer and drove him back to the ground. Unfortunately, Master Tsar was thrust so violently backward that he could not bring up a defensive barrier to soften the blow. The Jedi’s head slammed into the forest floor, cushioned only by a jagged rock...
Two days later, Aeronak turned up at the temple with a comatose Master Wernok. After realizing what he had done, he frantically tried to bring his master back from his unconscious state with no success. The Jedi has not brought any communicator with him and the initiate was forced to either carry him back or leave him to die. Of course, he chose the former. When he returned, Wernok was taken to the medical wing immediately. Soon, it was determined that Wernok would not survive. His brain had begun to hemorrhage when his head was struck and he was completely unresponsive by the time he made it to the temple.
Aeronak blamed one but himself, backing himself into a mental prison in which he had to process what he had done. Because he had lept forth bravely to battle with no recognition of the consequences, he had killed his Master. He vowed to never again allow himself to be overcome by his anger and now awaits judgement at the hands of the council.
