Background
Talos hails from a fleet-based isolated civilization of Ganks that simply drift in the Unknown Regions, undisturbed and cut off from their more ruthless cousins in Hutt-Space. The fleet, governed by a council of senior captains, relies mostly on their isolation for safety, staying out of the affairs of the wider galaxy. This however, does not mean they are entirely cut off, for centuries of drifting in space does not come without cost to the ships that make up the fleet. Repairs can only get them so far, and spare parts are in limited supply, so as a rite of passage, they send their young away to scour the known galaxy, not to return until they obtain something worthy of securing their place within the fleet. Upon reaching maturity, Talos was no exception in this regard, and so, like many others before him, he left the fleet, searching across the stars for that which would grant him a place amongst the fleet. Unlike most, however, he has not settled for ample quantities of scrap or ship parts needed to prolong the survival of existing ships, his aspirations are higher, for he seeks to return with a ship, laden with the resources and technology that would see him immortalised in the fleet’s proud history.
On his travels, he came across a mad but brilliant inventor by the name of Daedalon. They worked together for a time, Talos learning from him and proving to be quite the astute and talented technician. For a while, life was good, and the two became friends, but Talos’ growing talent for tinkering and improving upon old works played on Daedalon’s mind, seeing that one day, Talos’ works would surpass his own. One day, the two were admiring the view of the night sky from the balcony above their workshop, and in a moment of madness, Daedalon lunged at Talos like a man possessed, aiming to push him from the balcony and into the streets below. Talos avoided the tackle, and the two started fighting throughout the workshop. The fight culminated in Daedalon pinning Talos to a workstation, trying to burn him with a welding torch, and out of desperation, Talos grabbed a nearby knife from the table and thrust it into his mentor’s chest. Daedalon fell to the ground, the welding torch falling from his hand, its still lit spout igniting a nearby bookshelf. Before long the whole workshop was aflame and Talos, assuming his old friend had perished, fled the scene.
The incident had left Talos with several burns and cuts, but worst of all his larynx was severely damaged from the fight, burned by the madman’s welding torch, leaving him incapable of speech. His old Gank implant is now his only method of communication, broadcasting via commlink when communication is required. This process was not perfect at first, the translation from his own thoughts to galactic basic being nothing but a mess of code and numerical sequences, and thus he gained the monicker “Binary”.
Motivation
Trial by Ordeal - His primary motivation for roaming the galaxy is to acquire the resources and technology sufficient to be accepted as part of the fleet, though his aspirations are set far higher, and he will not return until he has enough to immortalise his name in the long history of his people.
Restore his voice - Being unable to communicate with his biological vocal chords hinders his progress in attaining the resources and technology needed to return to the fleet. Therefore, he seeks to restore his vocal chords, or replace them with a cybernetic alternative.
The Flesh is Weak - His altercation with his mentor and closest confidant has left him scarred both physically and psychologically. In his mind, it was the restraints of his own physical body that holds him back, and will augment or replace parts of himself with cybernetics whenever he can afford to and the facilities are available
Obligations
Obsession: Acquire Resources, Preserve the Fleet - His mission, as with all Ganks that reached maturity, is to venture across the stars and find a significant amount of resources to assist in sustaining the fleet. The more resources they acquire, and the more technology they recover, the higher in renown, respect and status they will be held in once they return. Binary is ambitious, and will not return until he obtains something worthy of satisfying that ambition.
