Background
Essen doesn't talk much about her past beyond her introduction to the Jedi. She was very quiet during her early years. Some who had spent years around her assumed she was mute as they had never heard her speak. She spent her time invested in reading and training instead of making any connections. While she normally doesn't speak unless necessary, she'll muster the voice when it comes to helping the downtrodden.
Motivation
Discovery: Seeking out and discovering new worlds, information, or the wondrous secrets hidden among the galaxy's countless stars drives this character's actions. More than anything, he wants to find and experience things nobody else has.
