Background
Ihwen has the innate curiosity that is common to nearly all Duros. He has a thirst for the knowledge of how things have come to pass, which drew him to the career of archaeology. His parent's fled the Duro system when the Imperials annexed it, and Ihwen has groan up far from his people's home world, which has given him a fair bit of knowledge on life in the outer rim.
The first archaeological dig Ihwen was on went horribly wrong. He had signed on to help with a dig on the ruins of an advanced world from the high republic era. Before he knew it, he was arrested along with most of the other members of the dig. The charges ranged from desecration and grave robbing to grand larceny and war crimes.
Ihwen was sure it was all a simple mistake, and tried the best he could to cooperate with the authorities. By the time all was said and done, Ihwen was charged with unlicensed archaeology, given a fine and several years probation. The dig leader/smuggler, was not so fortunate, and was sentenced to hard labor in the spice mines.
Since this event, Ihwen has performed more self directed archaeological pursuits. He is deeply interested in the events that lead to the formation of the Empire and eventually to the annexation of his people's home world.
Motivation
Ihwen has a resentment for the Empire due to their treatment of his people and the annexation of Duro. To this end he wants to understand what allowed the Empire to rise, both to hopefully help overthrow it, and to help prevent any future rises of totalitarian regimes.
Obligations
Criminal: (??? obligation) A dig gone wrong led to Ihwen being charged with unlicensed archaeology. He is still on probation from those charges and needs to avoid trouble with the authorities.
Bounty: (10 obligation) Unknown to Ihwen, the dig boss/criminal Ihwen was working for, has escaped the spice mines and placed a bounty on Ihwen's head. He has an idea that something is up as he was recently warned to keep a low profile, and that "snitches get stitches".
