Background
Tarn was born on Alderaan to father Rethnu Splin'lya and mother Tama Splin'lar. His Father was the highest ranking member, Consul-General, of the Bothan Diplomatic Corp on Alderaan. Tarn was the oldest child, but had a younger brother Bornu and Sister Tarma. They lived in a diplomatic mission, housing approximately 350 Bothans in Aldera. Tarn had attended several diplomatic social occasions and met Leia once, before she left to serve as Senator, he is probably about 2 years younger than her. Tarn didn't spend much time in these sort of situations, as mostly he wasn't all that interested in diplomatic work. He was something of a troublemaker being more interested in having fun or fighting than in studying for exams or learning bothan secret manipulation techniques.
One afternoon, he was with his group of friends, (about 5 of whom 2 were bothans), when a patrol of the New Order troops were walking around. He dropped some sort of wrapper or something, and the officer told him to pick it up. Tarn, as a spoiled young man, ignored him and walked around a corner expecting diplomatic immunity to protect him. Instead, they caught him, ignored his immunity, beat him and mocked him. Three days later, he found a recruiting cell for the Rebels and joined up. They sympathized about his being beaten, and they began to train him for basic skill hand-to hand combat skills. A few weeks after beginning this training, the leadership began talking about a base on Dantooine, and sending everyone there for more intensive training. So, still thinking this was mostly a lark, Tarn told his parents about an educational trip from school, and left a note explaining the rebellion angle, got on a shuttle and then a larger transport to Dantooine. There was some training on the transport, but everyone was ready for a new place, when news reached them that Aldaraan had been destroyed, reportedly within a few days of when they left.
With the destruction of his family, Tarn, as well as most of the transport passengers were left shocked and lost. Tarn vowed to continue to work for the rebellion to destroy the empire that had killed his family. He believed his duty to overthrow this empire would best be accomplished by gaining political allies, so he decided to focus his training as a spy. He began to realize how his father's diplomacy had been supported and empowered by the Bothan Spynet, and that the alliance needed such information for its diplomacy. On a more personal note, Tarn wished to exact vengeance upon the political leadership of the Empire, most particularly death for Emperor Palpatine, Vader, and any remainder of Grand Moff Tarkin's family and political allies.
--Recently Tarn has realized he is Force sensitive and has been able to get some training in Jedi powers and Code. He is still struggling with the no emotion- Peace clause, but he knows Jedi are/were respected and wants to gain status in this way. He isn't completely sure how to do this while still attempting to exterminate the Imperials. He is trying to Focus his revenge on the decision makers now. Vader and G.M. Tarkin (who might be dead already - yay!)
