Background
Crespon grew up as the black sheep of his family. Born as the smartest child in a family of geniuses, he was expected to attend a prestigious academy on his homeworld of Coruscant before working in the family business. His father was a businessman, running an import/export business. His mother was a banker, managing all of the family finances. His older brother became a very charismatic and talkative person, wooing new customers and intimidating their competitors. But as a teenager, Crespon found a love for the understreets. He happened to wander into the wrong elevator at 13 years old, and ended up on level 15. This was nothing like the finery and wealth he was used to. It was full of people desperately scrabbling in the dirt and muck for anything they could get their hands on to make their miserable lives slightly better. He was frightened by what he saw. These people's lives looked absolutely horrible. Running from this depravity and terror, he backed into another elevator, which took him up 20 levels. Here he found a cantina, the Roasted Cat. Inside, he saw tons of people from all walks of life, none of them savory. But despite this, they did not display the same depravity as he had seen below. They appeared to have both purpose and freedom, if little else. He found this invigorating, not depressing like the levels below. He spent more and more time down there, becoming a favorite of the regulars of the cantina. Learning from those around him what it was like to have nothing but your freedom felt like a drug to Crespon. He couldn't get enough, and soon was spending weeks at a time down there, renting a room above the cantina. He started working for a slicer he met in the cantina, and found that his intellect led him to be a good one, surpassing his master's skill quite quickly. His master came to hate him for this, and made his apprenticeship a living hell. In retaliation, he sliced his master's private data cache and gave it to the people who his master owed money to, and got his master killed. His home life was no better. His family hated having a son who was not the rich, clean, competent child they longed for, so they disowned him at 17. Angry, he sliced into all of their banking accounts, draining their finances into his own account. Bankrupt, his family collapsed, all ending up on the same depressing street on level 15 where his journey started. He found this to be a poetic justice, so he withdrew their money into cred sticks, and went and waved it in their faces, gloating. Desperate, the other level 15 dwellers attacked him, beating him nearly to death in their attempts to get the money they needed to achieve a better life. He managed to escape with one cred stick, which he used to pay for medical treatment at a hospital some levels above. Recovering and broke, he turned his skills as a slicer to true crime. This caught the attention of the Black Sun, who started funding his work. He knew nothing about them, but appreciated the funding, and so he worked the jobs they sent him, as well as his own. He became a slicer for hire, and a damn good one. He worked jobs alongside a few notorious criminals, such as Tavia and Bink Kitik, and the droid slicer 3-LOM. These new allies helped him establish himself in the criminal underworld, and become a better slicer, as well as a better team player. Tavia, an accomplished electronics engineer, taught him her skills as a mechanic, designing custom electronics for their jobs. They became fast friends, her giving him the nickname Crispy. She helped him make a custom pair of infrabinocs so he could scope out jobs before doing them, which proved helpful in their job on Danteel. 3-LOM was more of a business associate. He recruited Crespon into a job on Nar Shaddaa, stealing information from Grakkus the Hutt. 3-LOM knew the job was a setup, so they used that information to evade capture, and then returned Grakkus' information to him, along with the information from 3-LOM's employer. This made Grakkus greatly respect the both of them, especially 3-LOM. Crespon also gained Grakkus' favor, and was glad to know that he could always get a decent gig from Grakkus if necessary. 3-LOM, in gratitude for Crespon's assistance, helped him to make a custom set of slicer gear that he could use quickly, and twice as efficiently. He was at a peak in his life, and his career. But he slowly realized that the Black Sun had never collected on their investment in him. He became quite worried about his future, and started hiding data packets, concealing anything he knew of them, so he could use blackmail to get himself out if needed. He mostly hid them in dead drops around Coruscant, but a few he hid with his friend Tavia. He also hid a few digitally on the holonet. He had not heard from them, however, so he continued to work, improving his skillset, and becoming a great slicer. He also took up shooting practice in his free time, knowing it may prove necessary one day. And while he never became amazing, he wasn't half bad. Then, the Empire fell. He saw an opportunity, and took advantage of the lack of a solid government to work some high risk jobs, selling imperial data to both the underworld, and the Rebellion. He sold prisoner transport logs to the Rebellion, and Imperial Remnant troop and weapon movements to his underworld contacts, especially Grakkus. He also did one job selling Imperial Jedi relic shipment schedules to Grakkus, who as a collector of Jedi artifacts was very grateful. Crespon made quite a number of credits off of these jobs, and thought life would be smooth sailing from there. But then, one day, he arrived back at his apartment to find a data puck with the insignia of the Black Sun floating above it, summoning him to a meeting on Nakadia. Nervous, he packed a bag, worried he might be gone for some time. He left most of his money behind, worried that he might lose it all to Black Sun. He took a small amount in his digital bank account. He also brought two of the blackmail files with him, just in case he needed them. It didn't go well. The Black Sun told him that they needed his help to reopen their slave lane through Christophsis. They had sent a team to accomplish this task, but the team had encountered mechanical issues. Their hyperdrive failed, and he joined them on Rodia. He pulled a quick job taking down a local corrupt politician, earning enough money to fix their ship. They then head to Christophsis, and cause a huge commotion, but are eventually taken to meet Eh-gor, a Trandoshan who works for the Hutts. Despite the commotion the group caused, the Hutts seem willing to trust them. They aren't told the purpose of their first mission, but are just told they will be guards for a shipment. It turns out to be a spice shipment. The mission goes well. They get attacked, but fight off their attackers. They get paid, and are given a method of being given future jobs. They find out that their first base was attacked by a subset of these Hutts, but probably won't happen again.
