Born away from the lush trees of Kashyyk, Jowkatta's mother and father once made their living as engineers in the Mid Rim who primarily peddled in unique and cultural artifacts and technology from Wookiee culture. When the Republic gave way to the Empire and Wookiees were enslaved en masse, Jowkatta's parents fled to the world of Bracca and made a living as skilled Cutters, a path which Jowkatta took to quite well thanks to his innate raw strength and intellect. This might have been his entire life until an incident involving a surviving Jedi brought Imperial attention to Bracca. Jowkatta's parents managed to hide him well enough to avoid capture, but they were taken into Imperial slavery and he was left orphaned and alone on a world with far too much Imperial attention. Spending his lifes savings on bribes, Jowkatta fled to a backwater Outer Rim planet named Tatooine to try and hide away so he didn't end up like his parents, but even though abandoning his parents to their fate crushed him inside he believed was nothing a single Wookiee could do against a Galactic Empire- until the Rebel Alliance started recruiting in earnest on the planet. Though never much of a Warrior and he'd never so much as fired a blaster before in his life, Jowkatta's physical strength, sharp wit, and knowledge of machinery earned him an immediate recruitment.

Though Jowkatta has numerous intellectual and philosophical beliefs about why the Empire needs to be fought, his primary motivation for joining the Rebellion is the crushing guilt he feels over his parents being taken away into slavery so that he could live free. He knows that joining them in servitude would have accomplished nothing, but the guilt and sadness of being torn away from his family and being deprived the culture of his homeworld his whole life has driven him to the point where he's willing to do his part to dismantle the machine of evil.

Jowkatta is covered in primarily soft brown fur, though his lower torso and midsection are a much darker, near-black color. He is somewhat thin for a Wookiee, though of average height and weight at 2.1 meters tall and 120 kilograms. Jowkatta makes two simple braids for his fur to distinguish himself from other wookiees, but otherwise doesn't stylize it much. His fur is relatively soft and well groomed, though has clearly been stained with mechanical fluids many times in the past.
