Background

There isn’t much Poz can remember about his parents. He was just a boy when they took him, but the memories he had with them were pleasant ones and never seemed to mesh well with everything since then. Poz new his home planet was Mirialan and that it wasn’t very hospitable, they were hungry a lot and depended on the Trade Federation to sell them supplies. Some point before his fifth birthday the Trade Federation realized that they had the Mirialan’s by the tail and started gauging them. The only option that his people had was to either pay the prices the Trade Federation asked or to go to smugglers. His people had chosen the latter. At first it seemed to be working, food and supplies were coming in and he remembered his family being happy, but then one bad year left them short on credits and when the smugglers came to collect they were unable to pay.

Regretfully these smugglers worked for the Black Sun and soon a group of mercenaries were at their doorstep. The memories are still foggy for Poz but he new they had grabbed a bunch of women and children asking for whatever payment they had before they started killing innocents. Of course his people had nothing and when the town elder tried to explain that to the mercenaries he was quickly shot on the spot.

Eventually a strange looking man in black robes showed up and looked over the children. Taking interest in a few of them he collected them into the ship and told the town their debt was forgiven. Poz was one of the children taken. His parents gave him a hug and sent him on his way wishing him a good fate. That was something he remembered most about his brief childhood, Fate. His people felt a strong connection to it and insisted it would lead them in times of trouble, just like when he was trapped on the Black Sun ship. So when the opportunity presented itself Poz slipped into an escape pod and hit the eject button, right before the ship made a hyperspace jump. By the time they realized he was gone he had already drifted to the planet below.

Life after that wasn’t easy, the planet he had landed on was Eriadu, and it was anything but friendly. Most of the people there didn’t even believe in fate. He had to find a way to get buy and he quickly found an affinity to pod racing. He managed to somehow scavenge enough parts to build himself an acceptable pod and after being sponsored by a local parts dealer he managed to win himself a few races after only nearly dying a couple of times. Regretfully it couldn’t last forever and he eventually grew to big to race the pods. The sponsor had taken most of his money but he had managed to put enough away to get a speeder. No one suspected the old pod racer was one of the runners in the under city, but it was a job and it got him food. Poz constantly lived in fear that one day the man in the black robes would come back for him, but he trusted in Fate and waited for what was next.

The speeder started to sputter as Poz pulled into the star dock. There was a new shipment coming in today and Jengo had told him he needed to get it to the drop off point by noon or he would have his head on a pike. He did not however mention anything about the fact that Poz had made every delivery for Jengo in record speed and was hoping to celebrate his fifteenth birthday today, of course he didn't, that would mean Jengo would actually care.

"Speeders not lookin' to good kid, you sure you're gonna make this run in that piece of junk?" the smuggler at the dock asked.

"Shh.. don't listen to them." he said to his speeder before looking up at the Smuggler. "This piece of junk will make the drop in half the time one of those new mods will do!"

"Only cause your on it kid. Here ya go! Make Jengo proud." the smuggler answered.

"Right, like Jengo is ever proud."

"He's proud of himself!" the smuggler laughed. "Now get going!" he said as he secured the trailer to the speeder.

As the electro magnetic lock engaged with a crackle Poz reved his engine. "Oh and kid... happy birthday."

"Oh thanks!" Poz replied just before he took off.

Making his way toward the drop point he thought Well its about time someone recognized its my birthday... even if it was a total stranger...

Then it suddenly hit him.

How did he know it was my birthday...?

As if on cue he heard two loud speeders start coming up behind him, both completely black.

"Son of a nerf herder! Who are these guys?!" he called out as he put his speeder into gear and cut into one of the alleys. As they began to peruse a smile crossed Paz's face. This was going to be fun. The chase was on and he might even get this delivery done by lunch.
