Background
Born on Bardotta, Ashgabat, and his family were among the elite of Bardotta; his father was a member of the Force-sensitive Dagoyan Order, which helped run the planet during the Clone Wars. Sensing disaster approaching Ashgabat’s father, using his political connections and wealth, fled the planet to avoid his family suffering the siege that would cause significant harm to Bardotta. Despite believing themselves safe, the family were soon attacked by pirates, who sold his family to the Pyke Syndicate. Ashgabat was separated from his family to be raised as an enforcer for the Pyke Syndicate, while the rest of his family were forced into administrative tasks due to their higher education level and future value as hostages. Despite this, life was still hard, and Ashgabat and his family were under constant fear of death and violence from the Pykes and the separatists. To cope with his situation, Ashgabat began consuming spice to deal with the stress and by age 18 had found himself lost to his addiction, with the Pykes supplying him large amounts to keep him in line and make him more fearless and violent in combat. As a result of his addiction, Ashgabat acted as a violent puppet to the Pykes for many years, with his fearlessness and violence being a valuable asset for both stopping slave uprisings and facing off against rival crime gangs. Eventually, Ashgabat began climbing the ranks, being sent out on increasingly important missions, even being given a rare X-30 Lancer Blaster Pistol as a reward for a particularly dangerous mission to reclaim stolen spice from the smaller group, the Son-tuul Pride.
Eventually Ashgabat was deployed on a mission to facilitate an arms deal between the Pykes and an arms dealer, Wef, with this deal being vital to ensure the Pykes enforcers and military were able to retain their hold over the Galaxy. However, the deal fell through, and the criminal group known as the Hidden Hand had set up a trap, promising a far larger price for the arms and a longer working relationship. Within the conflict, Ashgabat was quickly knocked out and captured, with the Hidden Hand sensing his combat ability. Ashgabat was given the opportunity to defect to the Hidden Hand in exchange for spice and credits; despite initially being reluctant, fearing for his family if it was found that he defected, and finding himself experiencing withdrawal, Ashgabat agreed to the deal, joining the Hidden Hand as an enforcer.
The Hidden Hand is a crime syndicate allied to the rebel alliance and used rebel territory to hide its insurgent activity in exchange for credits and protection from the empire. Their alliance meant that during times of war, the rebels, especially more radical factions, would hire enforcers from the Hidden Hand as part of their dealings, something that led to Ashgabat being hired by the rebel alliance for his skills at sharpshooting and his fearlessness due to his addiction.
At this point in the story, Ashgabat is effectively a mercenary working for the Hidden Hand and rebel alliance; he is only motivated by his addiction, realising that his current employers paid better than the Pykes and that he was not technically a slave. Ashgabat has stuck with the groups and has carried out various missions from the rebels. His addiction to spice is only getting worse, however, with him increasingly struggling to go any amount of time without needing the drug and him getting less controllable and more violent when he can't get it; there are questions regarding how long his lifestyle is sustainable for. In addition, deep down, somewhere he still fears for the rest of his family, who are still forced into servitude to the Pykes.
