Zaiden Stormcloud (born Zaiden Kovok) was born in the year 15 BBY on the planet Iridonia. The son of a brief relationship between Dec Stormcloud--a passerby human merchant--and his Zabrak Mother, Xara. Zaiden never knew his father and was raised solely by his mother in the Northern Iridonian Kovok Tribe. Despite his mixed lineage, Zaiden grew up believing he was fully Zabrakian was unaware of his father's identity, a secret long kept from him by his mother his entire childhood.

Considered a prodigy among his tribe, Zaiden showed promise among his peers at an early age, completing his warrior training in one year by the age of 11. Shortly after his 11th birthday, and having shown signs of maturity, the Kovok Tribe held the Res Selenoren ("The Chalanges") for himself and 6 other Zabrakian youths between the ages of 13-15, and--with Xara's approval--the 11-year-old Zaiden was allowed to compete. Although the Res Selenoren was private, The Kovok Tribe's records indicate that of the 7 youths who partook in the challenges, only 3 returned--Zaiden being one of the three. Zaiden was honored at the Rising Ceremony at the end of the year, along with all of the other Zabrakian youths who had passed their rites of adulthood over the course of the year. As part of his final act of clan acceptance, Zaiden participated in the Rising Ceremony hunts, garnering the respect of the rest of the tribe as he managed to kill an adult Reek single-handedly. During the Rising festivities, Zaiden was marked with his black facial tattoos and given a cermonial Zhaboka that had belonged to his Grandfather, a respected Zabrak Warrior by the name of Zarochai Kovok. His name is engraved into the blade and Zaiden carries it as both an homage to his culture and to his family.
