Background
Pax Vakrik is an ex-Empire Verpine Saboteur.
- Pax was born on Nickel on, a worker-drone clone.
- Bred for a life on mindless manual labor, he surprisingly displayed a high degree of intelligence and technical aptitude, even by "intelligent" Verpine standards.
- The hive agreed to allow Pax to enter into higher, non-drone society. However, despite his scholastic and mechanical talent, he was largely viewed as an aberration and shunned from the collective.
- This engendered a deep resentment in Pax toward the hive that only grew more bitter as the years wore on. When the Galactic Civil War erupted, Pax enlisted in the Empire the first chance he got.
- Pax quickly established himself as an engineering prodigy and was put to work in the weapons division, where he rapidly rose through the ranks developing and perfecting Empire ordinance.
- Two years into his service, Pax was given his most important assignment: developing the payload delivery system for an adaptable gene bomb created in the late stages of the Clone Wars.
- The work was horrific. Forced to watch the Empire test his prototypes on captured rebels, Pax became sickened with the reality of war.
- The heroic thing would have been to fight. Destroy his lab, take as many stormtroopers with him as possible, and level the place to the ground.
- But Pax was no hero. He was a bright, naive young mind in way over his head, thinking only of how to escape.
- So, Pax ran. He stole some supplies, snuck aboard an understaffed cargo ship headed planet-side, and fled to a nearby town under cover of night.
- Fast-forward two years. A traitor to the Empire, no home in the Rebellion, and unable (or unwilling) to return to Nickel One, we find Pax scraping by as an underworld mechanic crafting two-bit tech for bottom-feeder mob bosses as he tries to keep a low profile and figure out his next move.
- Pax's motivation is simple: to make a decent life for himself and leave his past with the Empire behind.
- But the past has a way of catching up with you: unbenkownst to him, Pax has an Empirial bounty on his head to the tune of [XXXX credits]. And though he did not finish his bomb, the Empire has no intention of letting his hard work go to waste.
