Background
Val believes she was born on Tython, and that her parents died in the previous wars. She was adopted by their family friend, Kel-Dor Gray Jedi Master by the name of Ko Utchi. Master Utchi saw that Val was strong with the force from the early age. Whenever she would have tantrums because things weren't going her way, she unknowingly manipulated the force with her emotions. Something would always break, or a pebble would go flying in a random direction. Val was oblivious to this.
Master Utchi knew he had to get Val into the academy, to make sure she could handle the power that she had. She was a trouble child, having many tantrums at a young age, and getting into conflicts as she grew up. This made her force power handling very volatile, and she began to manifest better control over the more destructive powers of the force. Her master knew it was a gift and a curse.
Val was passing the academy trials with flying colors, except for one area. Her lightsaber combat skills. She could hold her own in defense, but when she was on the attack, she would always fail. One time she stumbled so badly that she broke her training saber, her master was not pleased. Val knew she had to supplement this weakness with her strong force training, and meditated and trained for that purpose for a long time of her young life.
Val befriended another student, and would stick by him throuhg thick and thin of the Jedi academy trials. They were both gray jedi, but they were to walk two different paths. Corr Kinal was Val's counterpart. He was not amazing with the force, but his lightsaber skills were impeccable. He could easily beat students that Val struggled to even touch with her saber. But he couldn't move a rock if his life depended on it. His force powers seemed to concentrate more on the physical side. These two students would supplement each other and go through trials together. They were an unstoppable team, and progressed through the entirety of Jedi training together whenever they could.
During their combat trial before their review for the Padawan promotion, Corr destroyed his opponent, knocking the other boy down unconscious in just a few missions. Val had a very different experience...
Val was thrown up against a very strong saber combatant. He couldn't rival Corr, but he was definitely a few steps above her. During the first few minutes of the duel, Val was hit multiple times by the saber , but was still standing. Then the combatant leaped at her, and proceeded to pummel her with unarmed attacks. Val was struggling to do anything against the boy, and it seemed like she was about to lose the duel, but fate would not allow that to happen. She was losing control of her calmness, and all of a sudden, pushed the boy off of her so hard with the force that he went flying into the nearby wall, making a dent in it. She got herself up, walked up to the boy, and started force choking him, with anger and rage in her eyes. "Drop him, Val!" yelled Master Utchi. But Val was far too enraged to hear her master. He had to force pull her to him, telling her that she bested her opponent and needed not to proceed any further, as well as firmly stating that she had to get her powers under control, and make sure they stay under control. "The dark side is not forbidden in our order, Val. but it is not to be used while you have no control over your emotions. You have much to learn still, little one".
Val and Corr were both taken on by Master Utchi, as the council believed he could teach them both to control / supplement their weaknesses. He would put them through very rigorous training, and take them on non combat intelligence gathering missions as well as hostile environments where they had to defend themselves. Master Utchi noticed that they solved things very differently, Val would attempt to be diplomatic, and talk first, but was very firm in her retaliation if things went south. Where as Corr would always take on the hostilities first, and solve things later when the enemy was beaten. This worries Master Utchi, but he believed that Corr would still be able to reign in his emotions.
At the age of 19, Master Utchi took his students back to Tython, to construct their lightsabers. It was very surprising to him, that Val so quickly found a fitting crystal for herself, and managed to construct it using only the force, never touching it with her hands, into a near-perfect cross-hilted lightsaber. It had a beautiful silver blade, and a personally engraved hilt. He didn't even know how she managed to find the schematic for such a weapon, as it was rare among the order. Corr had a lot of trouble with his, and while he did manage to make his double-bladed saber, it came out strange. He somehow managed to bind together a shoto and a regular hilt, so his double bladed saber was long on one side, and short on the other. He would later use this to his advantage by surprising his opponents with the second blade, as it didn't look like a normal double-bladed saber because the hilt was so much smaller. Master Utchi promised to teach Val how to handle her lightsaber better, as he knew that was still her weakness.
A year later, they were deployed on a combat mission with a squad of republic commandos, against the sith empire. It was a simple mission, destroy an outpost that is causing trouble for the Republic and Jedi Order trade operations with the Mandalorians. What seemed like an easy mission, was soon discovered to be above their level, as the outpost was heavily defended, and had sith presence on it. Master Utchi thought it was unwise to proceed without calling in reinforcements, but he also knew the urgency of the mission. If they took any longer, they would encounter even more empire troops, possibly failing their task. They pushed on to the basement of the station and planted the explosives, and proceeded to head to the hangar bay. There, they encountered two seasoned sith warriors. Master Utchi charged at the one he believed to be the biggest threat, and the padawans took on the other one. The battle was pretty equal, with both sides covering each others backs whenever they were in trouble. But the entire time, the unknown Sith warrior that Val was fighting, was getting into Corr's head. He could see that Corr was using his anger and rage to fight, the dark side was emanating from him. He told him of the power, he told him of the weakness of the Jedi Order, and he constantly told him to leave weaklings like his jedi friend (Val) behind, as he didn't even need his lightsaber to deflect her attacks. The battle continued, and Corr was fuming with rage. Then, as the two sides interlocked, with Master Utchi standing behind Val and Corr, fighting back to back, side by side, Corr did the unthinkable. As Master Utchi was stabbing the Sith that he had finally overcome, his lightsaber through his stomach, Corr ignited his shoto hilt, and pierced Master Utchi in the back. The Jedi Master fell to the floor with a heavy sigh, as his lightsaber extinguished. The sith warrior put his lightsaber away, cackled maniacally and said "He is mine now".
Val couldn't believe it. She helped him get to this point, to get his weapon together, just for him to do this, to their closest friend, and to someone who was, as far as she cared, her father? Val shouted out in anger " TRAITOR!! " as her eyes widened up in anger, and she had visible force gathering around both of her hands. Before the sith warrior could even ignite his lightsaber, she picked both him and Corr up, high into the air, and slammed them into the ground with such force that it could be felt around the room. She walked up to the barely-conscious sith warrior, and stabbed him with her lightsaber while he was still on the ground , ending him. Then she turned to Corr, her eyes full of flame. She was going to kill him. Then she would find a way to resurrect him, and kill him again. As she was standing above his body, a familiar voice told her calmly " Forgive him. I knew this day would come, he was always strongest with the dark side. I tried my best to pull him away, but it wasn't enough. But do not kill the only family you have left, perhaps you can save him". When she turned her head, it was Master Utchi's ghost that was speaking to her. Seeing him again calmed her down, and she realized the choices that were in front of her. She pushed his lightsaber away from him, pulled him in close to her and force choked him. As he was struggling, she said "You were like a brother to me, Corr. I will not end you out of respect for our fallen Master, but you are a disgrace to this order. " "He was weak..." said Corr struggling to speak through the choke. "And you are weaker, for falling so far down. For listening to that...monster. If I ever see you again , if we ever cross paths again, I WILL end you" said Val as she threw him across the room, and into a Sith ship. "LEAVE!" She screamed, with tears in her eyes.
Val took a holorecording of what happened, but omitted the part where she allowed Corr to leave, instead saying he escaped. She recovered her fallen Master's body and lightsaber, and linked up with the republic troops in the base, leaving back to the safety of the Republic space & the Jedi order. Val was knighted for her bravery and the way she managed to handle the situation. Upon visiting her mentor's room for the last time, she was told that he had made a holocron that was addressed to her, to be given to her when she is ready. She really was his force prodigy, and even in death he was going to guide her through life.
Now, with uneasy peace, she is assigned to the Jedi Order's coalition to maintain the interests of the Jedi Order, to keep the peace and the problems that it can present. The council also placed great faith in her fighting abilities, and felt that the coalition could use some more soldiers that are capable of standing toe to toe with the sith empire's finest.
