Background
Cefnyk had been an advocate for separatism even before the Clone Wars. From day one he joined the armed effort and did good work fighting the Republic on frontier worlds, killing numerous clones. He enjoyed it, these fake humans were an affront to the natural order and threatened galactic integrity.
Although his side lost the war, Cefnyk didn't lose the will to fight. The Republic turned into the Empire, the clones into stormtroopers and the CIS into the Rebel Alliance, but all that was just semantics. Central authority remained, and it still needed destroying.
