Background
Roka hails from Tyre, a planet sequestered in a dangerous nebula which makes astrogation difficult if not outright impossible in many cases. This, along with the dramatic time contraction experienced within the nebula caused Tyre and its sister systems to develop independently of the wider galaxy for a very long time. The Tyrians hadn't had any outside contact for centuries until Jedi Master Rammon Daal and his young daughter, Imra, along with their starship full of force-sensitive children Daal and his wife, Jedi Knight Tora Brightblade had discovered, found their way through the nebula while fleeing the Empire's Inquisition.
The Jedi soon found a home on Tyre, where they were quickly accepted by the Tyrian royal family and by the Force-worshiping acolytes of the temple. Master Daal began training force-sensitives of the nebula in the ways of the Jedi, starting with acolytes and the children, and later expanding to the people of Tyre and, eventually, a few recruits from other systems in the nebula.
Early in the Jedi's stay on Tyre, Master Daal came across Roka, an orphan child living in the Tyrian capital city. She was taken in by Master Daal, and raised alongside Imra and the other force sensitive children as their sister. Like them, she was trained in the ways of the Jedi from an early age, but use of the Force never came naturally to her, and her frustrations led to her leaving the temple and joining the Tyrian Armada, ostensibly a military, but mostly an exploratory force. Her sister Imra followed her, joining the Starfighter Corps. When she left, her father gave her one of his lightsabers to use for protection, as a memento, and in the hopes that she would continue her training. Roka didn't speak to any of her family after leaving the temple, except for her sister Imra; something she would soon come to deeply regret.
Not long after Roka joined the Armada, the Empire found their way through the nebula, guided by Master Daal's wife and son, who had not died as assumed, but had been recruited by the inquisitorius and now served the Empire as Inquisitors. A war ensued, during which Tyre was lost, and most of Roka's family was killed. Roka's lightsaber was detroyed, but she keeps the crystal as a memento of her father.
The Tyrian Armada was mostly destroyed; Roka herself, despite only being a lieutenant, was put in command of a refugee vessel, the Tranquility, which managed to escape. Thanks to Tora Brightblade, Master Daal's wife and Imra's mother, who had been turned away from the Dark Side and the Empire, they were able to navigate through the nebula, the systems within now conquered by the Empire (the Tyrian system itself having already begun being stripped of Kyber crystals for the construction of the Death Star), and into the wider, unknown galaxy.
Not long after escaping, the surviving Tyrians and other denizens of the nebula joined up with the Rebellion, eager to fight back against the tyranny of the Empire. Tora and Imra left to travel the galaxy alone, occasionally taking on dangerous missions for the rebellion, but keep in contact and sometimes return to bases where they are warmly received by Roka and her few surviving siblings.
After emerging into the wider Galaxy, Roka, disillusioned by war, intended on staying in command of the Tranquility and finding her people a new home. It wasn't long before the refugees made contact with the Rebel Alliance, though, where Captain Addim Orlessa of the light cruiser Parhelion, having heard stories about Roka's exploits during the conquest of the nebula, asked her to join his crew. Her siblings convinced her to accept his offer, and he made her his new tactical officer and third in command.
Roka served in this capacity for two years, until an encounter with Imperial forces testing a new type of interdictor battlecruiser in the Ambria system. The Parhelion and the other ships of her group were severely outmatched, and in the ensuing skirmish Captain Orlessa and his XO were both killed. Roka took command, and was able to disable the interdictor's gravity well and escape with the remaining ships of the group. After regrouping, Roka, believing that the new cruiser, more powerful than even the Interdictor-class Star Destroyer, couldn't be allowed to exist, convinced two other ships in the Rebel group to return and destroy it. Successfully gambling on the gravity well generators still being disabled, Roka led the Parhelion and her companions on a desperate attack; leaving all but a few of their fighters hidden amid the rings of Ambria, they baited the cruiser with hit and run tactics, leading it into an ambush. It was destroyed, and though some of the Rebel leadership questioned Roka's decision to re-engage the cruiser, they nevertheless promoted her to commander and allowed her to keep command of the Parhelion.
Now, years after her battlefield promotion, Roka still serves as commanding officer of the Parhelion. She is very rarely called upon to participate in operations where her unique talents are required, or where Tyrians are concerned; In these cases, she leaves command of the Parhelion to her executive officer, Lieutenant Commander Bail Orlessa, Captain Orlessa's son.
Motivation
Subordinates - Roka's first goal in any engagement is to get as many of her subordinates out alive as possible.
Peace & Justice - Roka wants to destroy the Empire to end its reign of tyranny and usher in a new age of peace & justice. She wants an end to oppression and war, and to the violent colonialism that took her home and most of her family.
Duties
Space Superiority - Roka believes that her skills as a naval officer are how she can best serve the Rebellion, and that the Alliance must amass a more suitable naval force if they wish to defeat the Empire.
Description
Roka is average height, with a fit build, the result of childhood training continued into adulthood. Her skin is a pale golden color, and her hair is coppery red and falls across her shoulders in curls when it's not tied up in a tight, professional bun. Her eyes are violet, and her ears and teeth alike are slightly pointed.
She's very straightlaced and professional most of the time, but every now and then she shows off a more childish side, especially when she's around her sister, Imra. She can be surprisingly impatient, and is the type to get frustrated when something doesn't work right on the first try. She is inquisitive, and stubborn, and very loyal. She dislikes dishonesty, though somewhat hypocritically will not hesitate to lie to or trick an adversary. She loves her family.
Roka is Tyrian, and so has a longer lifespan than most humans.
