Background

R3-N8 was purchased by the Grand Army of the Republic during the Clone Wars, where they served as an ARC-170 co-pilot on board the Venator-class Star Destroyer 'Valorum'. R3 objected to what they viewed as an unnecessary war between two equally immoral governments, and was subjected to various memory wipes as a result. In the confusion which reigned after Order 66 and the end of the Clone Wars, R3 managed to successfully desert. Since that time, they have supported themselves by flying of co-piloting in the service of smugglers or various small rebel groups. R3 has also become a staunch advocate for resistance to tyranny in general, and for inorganic rights in particular. Their activism in groups such as the Manumission Mandata Militia, the Inorganic Rights League and the Droid Lives Matter-movement has already drawn some unpleasant attention from Imperial authorities.

Description

As standard for the R3-series design, R3-N8 has a transparent dome. The rest of their casing was originally commissioned in the GAR's customary light grey, yellow and dark red scheme. Since R3's desertion, they have subjected it to numerous repaints. Currently it shows a stylized rendition of a sunset on an idyllic tropical island, in soothing shades of red, orange and yellow.

Other Notes

As an R-Series astromech droid, R3-N8 is not capable of vocalizing Galactic Basic, and must instead rely on beeping noises in Binary.

Though not entirely averse to forming relationships with non-droids, R3 has very little patience for those who refuse to check their organic privilege and does not hesitate to refer to them in dismissive terms, such as 'meatbags'. R3 is deeply committed to equality for all, regardless of species, planetary origin, gender, sex or class, but is dismayed by how easily their fellow activists dismiss the cause of droid rights. Even so, they are inherently drawn to supporting the Alliance to Restore the Republic in its struggle against Imperial tyranny.
