Background
D'atu Sinulo was just one of thousands of slaves within the Hutt empire. Used for his strength and agility, he brought violence wherever his masters willed it. His only shining light in the dark is his brother, Tuatha. For reasons unknown, the Hutts had kept them together since they were born. Perhaps they realized that neither would be as effective without the other. Either way, he and his brother were inseparable. Both D'atu and Tuatha loathed their existence as slaves, but as long as they had each other, life was bearable enough, despite their lack of freedom.
Motivation
Connection: His older brother was had always been his mentor. He had protected him from the wrath of the Hutts on more than one occasion. When his brother came to him and told him that he had a way to escape the life of servitude they currently lived, D'atu followed his brother down that path. Then after working as mercenaries for a while, his brother announced that he would be joining the ranks of the Rebel Alliance. Once again, D'atu followed his brother, for they were of one mind. Though their assignments may take them in different directions or even planets, D'atu will always follow his brother.
Duties
Since joining the Alliance, D'atu had won praise for being a fearless fighter with a head for battle. He had proven himself enough over the short time he had been enlisted that Alliance Command deemed him worthy of a post as a Commando on a special operations unit. He initially protested being separated from his brother, but the glory of battle eventually won him over to the prospect of special assignments.
Description
D'atu served faithfully as a Commando for many months; earning yet more praise from his superiors. That is, until they sent him on the mission to scout a barely charted world along the Hydian Way hyperspace route. The planet was so far off the route that there was little astrogation data available. Nevertheless, the potential for the world to house an Alliance base was too good to pass up. Little did they know that the astrogation data they had obtained was supplied to them by the Imperial Intelligence Corps. His squad landed and began their recon of the planet, but were quickly ambushed by Imperial troops. During the struggle, D'atu was knocked unconscious. When he came to, he discovered that his squad had all been slaughtered and he had been marooned on the world as the Imperials had blown up their ship. It had taken the Alliance 3 weeks to arrange for a rescue mission. When the rescue squad arrived on the planet, they found a weak, malnourished, but still alive D'atu. He spent 2 months recovering from his ordeal physically, but the mental scars had taken a harsher toll. Alliance doctors noted obvious signs of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, prescribed some time away from active duty, and offered him a rundown freighter for transportation. They sent him on his way and told him that as long as he checked in often enough, he could have all the time he needed to recover. As he longed for combat, yet it was the source of his PTSD, he was in a strange mental game with both his love and his tormentor. He manged to run a few non-combat jobs here and there to pay for his leave, but it didn't satisfy the itch that he needed to scratch. Eventually, he gave in and began looking for jobs that could put him in the way of combat once again. Who knows whether his mind is up to the task?
