Lucero is a Hutt, born of a clan who claims a long line, but one that has fallen of ill repute recently. For most of his adult life, he has been a lowly enforcer, cracking the whip and brutally running a small mine on a small moon in the shadowy outer rim for a clan he is indentured to.

Through victory, my chains are broken.

Lucero craves freedom. He might not be actually chained on his little moon, but his status in the clan is held back by his own family. Lucero's prime motivation at the present moment is finding a way to cease his obligation to his employing clan and escape a future merely enforcing their will on people weaker than Lucero himself. Not out of loyalty to the slaves beneath him, or for any dogooder reason, but only so he can focus on desires of actual significance-- namely, gaining power and authority.

The White Acklays are a clan of minor power in the system Lucero is in, but he is reaching out to them to help orchestrate any escape plans Lucero dreams of. Using the Acklays as he is, he is only trading one debt for another, but he hopes to gain a working relationship rather than a slave-master situation.

Lucero is trying to gain fervor with the White Acklays, promising to owe them allegiance for breaking him of his contract. Otherwise, he owes money to the Hutts holding his indentured servitude.

Lucero is on Ymir, a small icy moon orbiting Dolha, a jovian planet orbiting G7V, which is a yellow sequence star of middling and unimpressive size. What is important about this system, is the collection of desirable, and pricey, minerals and metals locked in the landmasses of the orbiting planets and their moons. Ymir is one of the lesser moons, categorized so because of it's lack of metals like cortosis. Lucero (partially) runs the mine here, left in charge because of his family's history, but left forgotten on this forsaken moon for the same reasons. On the day that his miners strike the core of the moon, he is called to join them at the center, because of the bewildering find. A large crystal, large as house, dominating the center, shines and gives off an almost song-like quality when the light from glowrods or torches touch it. The crystal seems impervious to the miner's tools, until Lucero arrives and strikes the rock with one of the workmen's picks. Shards fly off, mainly dust and a handful of small crystals falling on the rock floor. As he struck it, any light from within the core is extinguished, the colorless rock going dark. Tremors begin rocking the moon, and Lucero flees, scooping up the smaller crystals, knowing that they were most likely valuable. Realizing that the lunar body is collapsing or otherwise destroying itself, Lucero heads for the hangars, to pilot one of the waiting starships. He takes one, having not hit an emergency button to warn the rest of his crew, leaving them behind to fend for themselves, or die in the process.
