Background
Jez grew up on the light side of tidally locked Nar Shaddaa in one of the many vertical cities dominating its landscape. From a young age, she worked and lived in a Scrap & Repair shop with her mother and older sister, fixing various machinery, and parting out what couldnt be fixed. The majority of her free time was spent reading of grand adventures or watching long-running holodramas and fantasizing about one day adventuring on her own.
Soon after finshing her schoolyears, and tiring of the routine of her work, she fell in with a group of "adventurers" she met at the Orange Lady corner tavern, who in actuality ended up being recruiters for Darra Ventol, the regional vigo on Nar Shaddaa. Even after realizing the deception, Jez decided that working as muscle for a crime boss was more exciting than spending the prime of her life in a struggling scrap shop, even if it wasnt exactly the heroic adventure she so often dreamed of.
With little notice, she informed her mother and big sister that she had taken a job as a "mechanic on retainer", deciding that discretion was the better part of not-telling-your-mom-you-got-a-job-shooting-at-people. The "on the job training" was more rigorous (and terrifying) than she had prepared herself for, and she adapted by augmenting her fighting with the gadgeteering skills she had acquired from a childhood spent fixing and modifying tech beyond its expected parameters.
While Jez does prefer her new line of work (and the accompanying increase in pay), she still dreams of going on heroic quests with a found family, triumphing over seemingly insurmountable odds and saving the day.
Motivation
Jez's primary motivations are seeking the thrill of adventure as she pictures it from watching pulpy holodramas, and supporting her mother and sisters business which are in danger of failing under threat of larger conglomerates. Her judgement, though generally sound, can occasionally fall victim to her trying to match her course of action to what she would expect to happen in one of her stories.
Obligations
Jez, feeling guilty for lying to her mother and big sister, and not wanting her familys scrap shop to be bought out run out of business by one of the larger, more established mechanic shops encroaching on their territory, sends a not insignificant portion of her pay to her mother and sister, taking care to send it through secure, anonymous channels so as to avoid making them targets. Jez tells her mother the secrecy is simply a precaution, but she suspects that her sister knows something is up. Adventuring is Jez's dream, but theres little she wouldnt abandon to go and defend her family if need be.
