Gils Baliss joined the Republic Navy during the Clone Wars, becoming one of the relatively few non-clone, non-jedi people actively fighting, which was somewhat at odds with his pacifistic upbringing on his homeworld of Alderaan. He served admirably, and developed a loyalty to the navy that remained intact through the reformation of the Republic into the Empire. He rose through the ranks of the Imperial Navy slowly, his competence hampered by his lack of cutthroat ambition, but eventually managed to be made the captain the Star Destroyer Retribution. He remained at this rank for a decade, before retiring at the age of 60. A scant two years later, Alderaan was destroyed by the Death Star, and every injustice and cruelty Gils committed under the command of the Empire came rushing back to his mind, Now equal parts remorseful and vengeful, Gils Baliss has sought out the rebellion to offer what skills he can to the cause of overthrowing the monster he once served.

Cause: Quest for Redemption: The callous destruction of his home and people has opened Baliss's eyes to the depredations of the Empire, and the evils he committed in its name, and he will now stop at nothing to see it undone, and perhaps achieve some level of atonement.

24 Duty: Support: Gils Baliss will do everything in his power to support the rebellion against the empire, and doesn't particularly care about being recognized for it.
