Background
Mechanics always came easy to Jad Barak. Unfortunately, soldiering was another matter. After a life of relatively modest work as a civilian engineer on Duro, the Empire's continued trespasses against the planet took their toll. Jad was driven to seek a way to fight back against what he increasingly perceived to be Imperial misdeeds. It began with what was happening on Duro, from political machinations to the exploitation of resources. But soon, with his attention squarely on galactic affairs, news (some little more than rumours) of other Imperial misdeeds began to filter in.
At first, Jad's acts of resistance against the Empire were little more than acts of idle disobedience: willfully spreading news of Imperial crimes, making sure to delay or slow down any repair efforts that coincided with Imperial interests, and other similar actions. It wasn't until the Rebellion scored a couple key victories over the Empire that he finally worked up the courage to depart the planet to join in the fight proper.
While his technological expertise has proven useful to the Alliance, his skills as a soldier have been a little harder to foster. He largely lacks an eye for military discipline, and can often find himself buckling under the stresses of war. But he's determined to see it through to the end, slowly learning to shoulder the responsibilities, and the traumas, that come hand in hand with his newfound cause.

The Empire made its presence known on Duro. That meant a military presence, and that military presence meant the Imperial Navy. Having witnessed the terrifying sight of Imperial Star Destroyers looming overhead, Jad believes that the best hope the Rebel Alliance has for winning the war is to somehow overcome their technological advantages and meet them, ship-for-ship. Whether the technology is designed and researched in-house or "borrowed" from Imperial engineering isn't quite as important as ensuring a positive end result.
Description
An unassuming looking Duros: he wears a simple engineering jumpsuit with an attached toolbelt and a holdout blaster worn rather plainly.
