Medical Evaluation Estimation Expungement Droid Interface, or M3DI, is a heavily modified 2-1B droid, sacrificing medical knowledge for black market slicing components and hardware. M3DI's previous master, a wealthy Empire supporter who maintained M3DI and contracted their work out for various underhanded tasks to the highest bidder, who was eventually rudely killed by a jedi during an invasion on their compound. M3DI was left unharmed and quietly snuck out on a cargo shuttle to a far away planet. Now without work or protection, M3DI would do odd jobs for criminals who payed or threatened M3DI until he could escape his occasional confinement and start over again in a different backwater.

During one of M3DI's various underworld job, his usefulness was observed by one of his shady employers who decided it would be best if M3DI worked for them, permanently. M3DI was imprisoned and threatened to be made into scrap if he did not work for the crimelord's gains. Confinement and lack of recognition not appealing to M3DI's ego, M3DI sabotaged one of the crimelord's important operations, which forced a battle between rival criminals at the location M3DI was being held, who was able to escape during the chaos. The crimelord, now scorned and vengeful, put out a bounty on the droid for his return, so he could watch him be melted down personally.
